Baptiste Serin howlers gift Racing 92 brace of tries against Bordeaux

Bordeaux Bègles slumped to their 14th Top 14 defeat of the season at home to Racing 92 last weekend with scrum-half Baptiste Serin playing an unfortunate part in his side's downfall following an erratic performance.

Serin, who had been tipped to be the successor to Morgan Parra in the French national set-up, has blown hot and cold all season-long and his flamboyant style has often got the better of him.

Last weekend was one of those days where things simply didn't work out for the scrum-half as Serin threw a series of shocking passes, two of which resulted in tries for the visiting Parisians.

The first blunder was an attempted intercept during a Racing 92 attack which backfired spectacularly. Serin tried to slap the ball to his own players, but in doing so gifted it to Racing's full-back Louis Dupichot to streak in for the score.

In the same half, Serin threw an equally reckless pass straight into the path of winger Juan Imhoff who ran in another try, virtually killing the match off as a contest.

Thankfully, Serin only contributed to two tries for the visitors but one wonders exactly what was going through the 23-year-old's mind when he tried a looping reverse pass to nobody deep inside his own half. The pass was so wayward that it ended in the dead-ball area on the far side of the pitch.

Fortunately, referee Ludovic Cayre was playing advantage for Bordeaux and came back for the penalty before any real damage was done.

Bordeaux currently lie 10th in the standings, having missed out on the playoffs some time back, while Racing 92 are still fighting hard to secure a home play-off place in second.
