Midweek Madness - Player throws second ball into ruck to halt promising attack

Is there a law saying a quick penalty tap has to be with the same ball? I know lineouts need to be taken with the same and not interfered with by an non-player. Come to think of it, what about restarts also - same ball required? Come on boffin refs, answer me!

The Shortball highlights wrap from Round 6 of Super Rugby

Everything is getting silly, time and again we see players banned for just as long for competing for a catch and someone accidentally landing awkwardly. Now we have a deliberate kick to the head getting a lesser punishment.

Where has the sanity gone?!?!

Try Savers and Rib Breakers 13

I remember as a boy coming to this site and watching the others back to back. Now as a man I will spend the next couple of hours doing the same. Thanks RD!

Romain Taofifenua banned for three weeks for kicking Stuart Olding in the head

So what is essentially being said by the IRB is that if you're playing within the laws and accidentally injure somebody then you deserve a 3 week ban.
The sooner this nonsense gets stopped the better in my opinion, the whole thing has gone beyond a joke.

How about a system whereby if a club feels foul play has been committed on their player during a game they can refer the incident to be investigated, as opposed to somebody sniffing around for an excuse to justify their salary (the current system). This would mean on the balance of things most clubs wouldn't bother referring things like this because they know what goes around comes around and if they report this, the next week it may be their player on the receiving end of IRB insanity. When there is serious foul play, e.g. gouging then they would obviously refer the incident.

The current system has no benefits other than to the IRB's employees who're have a contrived job.

Soteria Pulumu suspended from Women's World Cup for Spear Tackle

Is it a different disciplinary panel to the men's rugby, 5 weeks? If this happened in a Test Match or the RWC we'd be hearing about a 3000 year ban for the offending player.

Jebb Sinclair controversially red carded for 'leading with the elbow'

Ha, just listened again, yup think you're right. I feel like a right chump now, in my defence it was pretty much the only thing the co-commentator said during the match so I assumed it was the TMO. Woops.

Jebb Sinclair controversially red carded for 'leading with the elbow'

I watched BT Sport 2 commentary - you could hear the TMO there, HE GOT IT SPOT ON and said there was no offence. This is totally the referee's wrong doing. If a transcript or audio clip could be found of their exchange it would be extremely interesting for everyone.

Jebb Sinclair controversially red carded for 'leading with the elbow'

I watched this live and emailed rugbydump straight after the game requesting this clip. I am so glad it has been put up, thanks rugbydump!

The decision is unbelievably bad, quite often on here I comment on tackles... that although I (dis)agree with the referee I can understand the logic of the other side of the argument. This however is just 100% outrageous.

What this clip doesn't show is the TMO's comments. It's really interesting to listen to- the TMO said there was nothing wrong with it and wasn't foul play at least twice, and advised the referee to go back to Canada's penalty on the 22 which would have let them take the lead with a couple of minutes left. The referee watched the replays on the screen and overruled the TMO saying it was dangerous and the Canadian lead with the elbow, the TMO disagreed then just kind of went quiet before eventually non-committally going with the ref. Basically what is the point of the TMO in this situation if the ref just watches the TV in the stadium? On a side note when did this current fashion of the ref watching the clip begin and what is the guidance on the situation?

Rene Ranger treats Henry Slade like a speed bump in Barbarians match

You cannot be serious. Dangerous play, there are about a thousand things more dangerous than this which go on in rugby?
Losing balance is not the same as deliberately jumping into the tackle. Essentially it is the same result as a 6'7'' guy running into a 5'7'' guy and using his momentum to force the smaller player downwards - not dangerous, believe me, I've been on the receiving end enough times.
