Toulon DVD Trailers - En Route Vers Le Doublé

@Ed, given that half the team don't speak good enough French (hence the Franglais team talks by Wilkinson), I imagine they'll bring out a subtitled version if for no other reason than for the non-french speaking players to be able to understand the DVD.

Benito Masilevu's huge side-steps give Brive late victory over Toulouse

@ Stroudos "By the way, what is it with Fijians?"

It's the combination of environmental conditions (beach / sun) and a leadership that promotes rugby, from what I understand. That and obviously now the proud tradition of being the best players of the rugby ball in the world of rugby union.

Absolutely! That was the best part of the video... boxing is probably the only other sport where I've seen that kind of decency between on a very real level between two greats. Sometimes you see it at the Olympics and it happens every weekend in schools but in professional sport at this level of intensity, it's rare and it was the most amazing part of the whole thing for me; we'll see better from both the Frenchman and the Fijian in the next 12 months.

Knock on - check syntax
Laws - check sport
"... as soon as he kicked" - check Law 8 :

Law 8
...
8.1 ADVANTAGE IN PRACTICE
(a) The referee is sole judge of whether or not a team has gained an advantage. The referee has wide discretion when making decisions.
(b) Advantage can be either territorial or tactical.
(c) Territorial advantage means a gain in ground.
(d) Tactical advantage means freedom for the non-offending team to play the ball as they wish

The wide discretion of my decision is that judging by your command of the basic fundamentals of the game you're in no position to be adjudicating but I've already heard your opinion on the field and I respect it. Some people don't actually need to know what's going on in order to be useful; it's a game for all shapes and sizes, as they say.

Can't blame Fickou, I think that would have put anyone on their arse. Happened to O'Driscoll once that I remember (although he did it to a fair few defenders to be fair).

Massive knock-on with no advantage to Toulouse after Flood's poor clearance that gave Brive the ball back in space with little ground made. I think the ref missed the knock on as he's giving advantage for playing the man when Masilevu gets his hands on the ball. Shame for Toulouse who will remember this game and that decision at the end of the season, no doubt. As a rugby fan, avant tout, I'm glad the ref missed the knock-on as Masilevu is always a delight to watch. He uses his footwork as much in defense as he does in attack, often tricking bigger players into going into contact on his terms. That side-step and pace coupled with aggression and technique in defense make him one of the most dangerous wingers in France right now which is saying something.

Nigel Owens shows Anthony Allen the way to the football stadium

I had a Welsh coach playing for Cambridge RUFC from U7s till U11s who would referee our games against other clubs and frequently penalise us in matches (and never the opposition) for the offense of "Dull play!"

Nigel Owens shows Anthony Allen the way to the football stadium

After an off-the-ball incident involving a flanker's elbow to the back of my head that the ref missed but acknowledged as having happened, the same flanker obstructed me as I was trying to follow the opposition scrum half around the ensuing scrum. Naturally, as scrum halves do, I gave the flanker a very hard open handed slap to the face and things generally descended into mayhem around the scrum for a while. Once the forwards had pulled themselves off each other the ref took me to one side, away from the mark and waved his finger in my face, frowning yet quietly saying to me "he's had it coming to him all game but I have to look like I'm giving you a bollocking so just bow your head and nod". I did just that while fighting off the urge to grin like a Cheshire cat. He reset the scrum and the game continued uneventfully.

French referee horrifically breaks leg, collarbone, and sprains ankle

He's the rising star of French refereeing. Hope he gets well soon and continues to receive the support he needs to get back in the middle. French rugby need him almost as much as they need a reliable fly half at the moment.

Eben Etzebeth in hot water after making contact with Greig Laidlaw's eyes

This kind of behaviour never harmed Bakkies' chances of selection when available. As long as these players can reel it in and remember not to snap the guy's head off, I think we can leave them to it. When headlocks become a genuinely useful trick in the game we can discuss the skills of players like these... what I've seen of EE so far is not very impressive in rugby terms, he seems to get tired very quickly and comes out of line in defence regularly. Not sure he's completely au fait with the laws of the game outside the pack.

Clermont snatch dramatic 50th consecutive Stade Marcel Michelin victory

Watched this begrudgingly as nowhere in France seemed to be showing the England Fiji game. Turned out to be an amazing game. Giteau was excellent but quite quiet. Wilkinson was outstanding.

Armitage is maturing fast in Toulon and I think the guy deserves a chance. Agreed that taking pleasure in another player being injured is in contrast to the values of the game of rugby that start pretty much with "respect everybody involved".
