Chris Ashton bags three as Barbarians beat England in high scoring try fest

I meant that as Ashton is a winner.. whether he wins anything in the future or past, the fact he made it to professional rugby shows him as a winner to some degree.

Johnny Wilkinson strikes me as the kind of guy who probably got up in the morning, ate the same breakfast every morning, got out their and practiced, at the end of the day he practiced some more, and before and after the game he practiced again...

Ashton strikes me as the kind of guy that gets up, has a shower, wipes the fogged up mirror to reveal himself then winks at himself and goes "good morning champ".. then walks off with a swagger...

So his attitude is flamboyant, showboat etc, BUT he has paid his dues as he is a professional player, he is obviously good enough to wear an England shirt (in the past). Some people won't be able to stand that attitude, others will love it... I don't care either way..

Farrell strikes me as the kind of guy that used to do the latter and is perhaps realising that the former makes him more switched on...

Hmmm.. I don't particularly have any issues with him. I guess he is a winner in the "I've broken through to pro rugby" sense of the word.. An elite, if you will... Watching movoes you see them come with at least 2 characters, the 1. The cocky full of themselves character who tells himself he's the best, acts like a bit of an arrogant knob, but truly is good. 2. The quiet guy who really is good and everyone knows it, even he knows it, but he's calm and collected..

I suppose he's playing great for Toulon and he has played great for the Baa Bass, but will that for in and work with the England squad? Do they need that 'renegade', in amongst the mix..

... As I mentioned, I don't get why he got gifted that first try... His other 2 were very good...

A headbutt is a headbutt as Folau Fainga'a gets red carded and suspended

Well I figure we're going to be girly about everything else, why not this... Agree with your second part about the free pass however...

tit....

I'm happy for 1/2 a yellow for diving in, a yellow for the headbutt and another 1/2 yellow for making yourself look like an idiot because the other player doesn't react...

Pretty sure that equals a red..

Why was Ashton gifted the first try? I'd get it if he's scored 2 already and they gave him the hat trick.. but why the first? Make a point against England/RFU?

Flip van der Merwe slams ban after pushing referee out the way

Looking back at prior incidents I can see I've changed my tune a bit... I made a mention of any punishment for pushing a referee is fine in my books...

I think my issue is that when you see the self destruction of other parts of the game, when this gets lumped in with it, you'd think "yeh, well, serves you right" but I guess when you see red cards and silly bands for minor incidents, rather than this being one of those core golden rules of the game, it gets recognised as another form of OTT punishment...

Somewhat agree with the above.

Decision was made, bitching about it on twitter isn't going to change it.. you'll more likely make it impossible to change because it'll be seen as backing down to the social media influence.

That being said "what has the game become?".

I feel that the powers that be have tightened their unnecessary grip on so many parts of the game in a way that is far more than required that now little things are bursting out through the cracks and requiring knee jerk reactions. This was far from a violent shove, but a bit more than a brush past... So a talking to from the referee (as there appears to be) is surely sufficient?

We're losing control. The diving is becoming more prevalent and less punished than promised due to (imo) a direct impact from the fact you can't turn round and belt someone for their indescretions, it's now easier and safer to dive to make a point.

The Mujati incident was deserved of a punishment, I think it was a violent shove and it was unnecessary.. this look more like a strong guidance of moving to the side..
