Tim Visser scores bizarre corner flag try in Harlequins' defeat

"As the saying goes, you make your own luck sometimes."

There is the other saying which is:

"Always play to the whistle"... The Exeter backs could be forgiven I suppose as the kick did well and truly look like it was on it's way out, but it's an example of not assuming things.

Great effort by Visser, but also well done to Exeter for pulling off the win.

Emotional Hakas farewell Jonah Lomu at final public memorial

The thing I find difficult is that I'm not friends, I'm not family, indeed I never even met the bloke. So to feel like I feel watching this video and indeed the beautiful Eulogy by Eric Rush is quite alien to me.

I've known people at school that have died. I've seen other BIG 'celebrities' notifications of death and parts of their funerals (Princess Diana springs to mind), and how that clearly touched a lot of people.. But I almost felt closer to this set up than I did the other lot stated previously...

I suppose there is a combination of knowing how much he meant to his family and friends which is very sad, then his surrounding area, then indeed the whole of NZ, SH, and from there the world. To see such a collection of incredible players, all paying their respects, to read other players tweets and comments, it's clear to see how much he meant to rugby. I suppose he was the first big name I'd come across, I knew the different rugby teams, but 'Lomu' was always a big name. I suppose indeed it was his name and game that actually helped me to understand rugby (as best a video game can do) and learn other names/nations and probably indeed roughly where they ranked in the world...

What a massive farewell from the crowds. I still cannot really believe it, Jonah Lomu is a household name and for him to be gone from this world is still a shock.

Thoughts and prayers for the families and friends.

RIP

Thom Evans to make rugby return in Dubai 7s

Wow, best of luck to the guy, I remember the moment the injury happened, it was quite a sickening moment. I remember trying to follow his recovery as best as the media would allow with their info. I'm glad to see him make a return, stay safe.

Commentators unhappy after Billy Vunipola is sinbinned for 'shoulder charge'

Good point, I've actually got to say Vunipola was a great example for youngsters. He didn't agree clearly, but he accepted it and walked straight off with no (or minimal) arguing.

Matthew Rees facing lengthy ban after red card for vicious stamp on Nick Easter's face

Confused by first instance and second instance... :/

He was initially banned for 12 weeks, this was then reduced to 7 because of a clean previous record and a guilty plea...

Is the second instance talking about Christmas period etc? I don't know if the ban is literally done in weeks, or whether it's done in playing weeks... I've not read up yet..

Bernard Le Roux shown straight red card for petulant stamp

I sort of wish the other player or other team had sort of intervened before the card was shown and I dunno, just said "it's ok ref"... or something...

Of course the win is important so I doubt they'd do it, and the ref may not listen... but still :(

Bernard Le Roux shown straight red card for petulant stamp

Well they were indeed, but 10 years ago there was; more often than not, a collective effort to install common sense into both players and officials...

I really don't want to have to break out my usual video of the Tom James headbutt... but it's getting close.. There are certain things that to the letter of the law are by definition, illegal, but we both know whether those things are really worth kicking up a fuss about, or just ignoring (or warning..)

Totally fine to card him... along the same lines, I hope RD will hurry up with the next article regarding a citing for the Ulsterman who elbowed Vunipola as he went into the tackle... I expect the Ulsterman to get a ten billion year ban as a result....

To be honest, Poite has a his good moments, but he also has his pitifully bad moments (which come more often?)...pretty poor call, but it's what I've learnt to expect these days...

Bernard Le Roux shown straight red card for petulant stamp

I suppose the point is, can you imagine us all saying "yeh, red card and either nothing or 1 week ban" 5-10 years ago?
