Is that a joke?

Italy ruck tactics bemuse England and agitate coach Eddie Jones

I saw an interesting tweet saying that Italy's tactic should be viewed as the greatest compliment anyone has ever paid England since the 2003 World Cup

Ross Moriarty's thumping late hit on Owen Farrell in Cardiff

Call me a one eyed Englishman, but Moriarty only really begins to accelerate after the ball is gone. He deliberately commits to a man without the ball. Lawes is accelerating the whole way and is committed to tackling a man in possession of the ball. Both players had the intent to hurt, but only one of them carried it out in a legal manner.

2017 Six Nations: Best of social media from Round Two

Agree with Greenwood. Moriarty was making a serious physical impression around the park (not that I wan't to condone his cheap shot on Farrell). It's early days in his career but he looks to suit the modern game very well. It's a massive, massive loss for England that he chose to play for Wales.

France's Caroline Boujard cited after reckless mid-air tackle

I would say that jumping for the ball means the defender has to check before they make the hit, meaning you're less likely to get clattered (wo)man and ball as you catch it (unless you get clattered in the air that is)

New directives under fire once more as Brice Dulin gets carded for challenge

I would be interested to see how a referee would adjudicate a situation in which two players compete for the ball and the player who does not catch the ball lands dangerously.

Clearly the directives have gone too far but it would be foolish to do away completely with outcome in the decision procedure. Rather than a rigid, rule based system it should be left to the officials to come to a sensible case by case decision that blends action with outcome.

Connacht snatch win over Wasps after new law directive calamity

In that instance, it was a case of subjective misinterpretation of the laws. This case is different. It's a complete lack of knowledge of the laws on behalf of the ref. The result should still stand but mistakes like this should not happen.

Player banned after filthy off the ball tackle on female referee

It is shocking regardless of gender.

But I would be inclined to argue that intergender assault is far worse.

George North free to play after sickening landing worries fans

Equating the NFL with rugby is an even sillier argument than the previous. Even if they were somehow equatable, I've still never seen someone jump for the ball, get clipped, do a somersault and score.

Are you honestly saying outcome is irrelevant when deciding matters?

You have to consider consequence and action. Imagine a situation where someone takes a swing and misses completely. Is that as bad as a punch that connects? Clearly not. Should it still be punished to some degree? Clearly. A balance has to be struck between the two.
