George Pisi's brutal blindside hit on Nick Abendanon in Challenge Cup Final

The premiership will sorely miss this guy. Top bloke, and unlucky to never really get a chance for England. I suspect this sparks the end of any further potential caps. Not a Bath fan but I've got a lot of time for Abendanon.

Great hit.

Glasgow Warriors upset Munster then Leinster edge Ulster in tense PRO12 Semis

You're probably right. I've only seen the highlights so it's pure speculation.

Glasgow Warriors upset Munster then Leinster edge Ulster in tense PRO12 Semis

In the build up to Munster's first try could Keith Earls' actions not be considered obstruction in its most extreme? I haven't seen the game but it seems like he's taken out the Glasgow player and left the rest of the team to defend their try line with 14 men instead of 15 men. Surely if there's the slightest possibility the try would have been stopped by that player the try can not be awarded.

I doubt that was Earls' intention, it seems as though he's just wound up by something. But nevertheless the consequence is Glasgow are down to 14 men in a perilous situation. Obviously with less players there's more space for the attacking team to exploit. It would be interesting to know if there's a specific ruling against this.

Outcry as Florian Fritz returns to play after severe knock to head

It seems clear to me that three things need to happen here.

1) Appoint an independent doctor to carry out impartial concussion tests. This way there will be no bias to keep a player on the pitch. The only concern will be of individual player welfare.

2) Scrap the 10 minute rule. The medical staff were so rushed for time and, as you said, seemed too preoccupied with the blood to focus on the more pressing issue. The assessment has to stringently cover all aspects of the player's situation. Pressurising whoever's in charge with an arbitrary time constraint is madness.

3) Sack whoever was responsible for allowing Fritz back onto the pitch - be it the manager or the medics.

Tom Court shown straight red card for tip tackle on Devin Toner

Those are my thoughts exactly. Each player has lifted a leg not realising the other has also done likewise. By the time they try to react, Toner's 6ft11 frame has been flipped upside down, which is quite a feat. Picking which player to punish is like playing a game of eenie meenie miny moe (hopefully not Jeremy Clarkson's version).

Regardless, I really don't like Muller's comments. He got arsey with the ref over the Payne incident as well. He knows his voice is getting picked up on the refs mic and shouldn't be pulling that shit. By turning the ref against you it's also the worst thing you can do for your team.

The new European Rugby Champions Cup explained

For Rabo clubs already strapped for cash surely the prospect of more European games can only be good.

I remember a few years ago when the recession was at its worst they were considering adding some extra games to the Aviva season purely for this reason.

The new European Rugby Champions Cup explained

I wouldn't take anything Austin Healy says seriously. This is clearly favourable to English and French teams and I can't believe the Irish actually agreed to this.

Personally I think there should be more spots given to playoffs. Make it a true *meritocracy and let the borderline teams battle it out.

Heineken Cup 2014 Quarter Final Highlights

Out of interest, what would your decision have been were you the referee?

Heineken Cup 2014 Quarter Final Highlights

Why does the fact that his eyes were on the ball make the contact less dangerous? Payne made no attempt to compete. The actions of his body are clearly more important than the direction of his eyes. Goode came down with a sickening thud. Correct decision to give a red.

What was incredible was the heart shown by Ulster. I honestly don't believe any other team in the tournament could've been that competitive given the circumstances. Gotta feel for Paddy Jackson. I so wanted Ulster to win.

Carlin Isles dropped ball blooper ruins great fifteens debut try

Usually when someone loses control of the ball over the line it's a knock on so any grounding thereafter doesn't count. But in a weird situation like this the ball goes backwards when he drops it. So the game's still live and he's free to ground the ball, no?
