Italy stun France with another Six Nations upset win in Rome

What do you think of Picamoles getting out? I think he was one of the few french players actually doing something on the field. I guess this is very tiring, but when you have such a determined mind, I think you can go on for 10 or 20 more minutes. I have never played at that level and I don't know what it's like, but it seems to me that replacing the few players that are burning more energy is not a good idea, unless you intend to spare for the next game even if it means losing this one.

Italy stun France with another Six Nations upset win in Rome

No offense but I m pretty sure Machenaud - Michalak was not the first time. They played together in Autumn. And I think they showed great skill and understanding then. This time they were not to blame (not more than the rest of the team at least). I have the feeling that, beyond the general lack of stamina and precision, the french suffered mainly from the unclear situation regarding centre/wingers. Fritz can be really good, Mermoz...I m not sure.
In this context, Huget did quite a good job as full back. I like Butin, but Huget playing full back wasn't the problem here. Bad coaching indeed.
Frustrating game from France, somehow you could feel they were playing at half capacity.
I hope the italian won't rest on this victory, thinking they have done the hardest part of the job. Because clearly, they haven't. Any other VI nations team could have won against this french side.
And I hope les Bleus will take their finger out of their arses and actually catch the ball instead of losing it like they haven't slept for weeks.

Italy stun France with another Six Nations upset win in Rome

Neither french nor italian but I ususally stand for both (unless they play against Belgium :-) I think it was a really weird game. Sometimes quite intense. But then so many mistakes. How many handling errors from france in the end? 15? It was already 11 after the first half! So, very nice game from Italy, but imo, this is mainly an accident.

The Rugby World Cup 2015 Pools drawn and IRB awards given

True that pacific teams were not always the most consistent in the past...
So given that, I guess you re right. The odds may be better in pool B than D. Truth is, I don't see Canada or the USA getting to the third place in neither right now. But let's hope!
Also true regarding the schizophrenic french. Nevertheless, in 2011, Samoa was a serious threat VS Wales and RSA even if not lucky with the results. I m already looking forward to watching Samoa-RSA in 2015! Someone should warn seismic scientist...

Sure, but still fun to discuss!
I think the best possible pool is the french's last RWC. A fight VS NZ in pool is a good preparation! And you don't see them again before the final!

I understand you're predicting/hoping, so no point really "disagreeing". Still I think Samoa's current form is pretty impressive. America having a good shot...currently a game between those two would be a pure massacre imo. Last game of Samoa saw them scoring twice against a really solid french defense. With a bit more luck, discipline, and a kicker, Samoa could have won this match. Pains me to admit it, but they were stronger than a pretty good french team this day. I hope Samoa will still improve cause if they do, they will be a solid challenger in 2015.
But for the sake of competition, I 'd be glad to see the USA improve too!

Haha, sure wales isn't in good shape. As for the incident, the amount of comments here speaks for itself.

France vs Samoa Highlights - November 2012

What a game! Looked a bit like France-England 15 years ago :-) Only now its France that keeps calm and slots penalties while the opponent scores tries but get nervous and tired. Almost had a dozen heart attacks! Such offensive power from Samoa required a huge defense from the french. Good thing for Samoa the game is not more than 80 minutes though. Maybe the french should have pushed back a bit earlier.
With a real kicker (in game kick was really good, but no drop attempt and 0/2 penalties) this samoan team would quickly climb up the rankings.
