The Springboks demolish Argentina in Soweto try-fest

I think it all came down to the attitude which each team faced the game with. South Africa were building on a second year under Meyer, a pretty pragmatic coach, and were on the back of three straigh wins against Italy, Scotland and Samoa in June, whereas The Pumas were rebuilding after being well beaten twice against England on home soil, and these self confidence issues started to show after they lost Fernandez Lobbe before the match and Albacete and Hernandez during the 1st half.

I think Phelan and Turnes haven't been up to the task, and has kept calling players based on their 2007 performances (think Leguizamon). Also Imhoff is an attacking gem but can't tackle a dummy, and Felipe Contepomi, extraordinary player that he was, can't keep carrying all the weight on his shoulders. There are plenty of very good Pumitas (U20s) coming in (Matera, Poet, Ramiro Moyano, de la Vega, Diaz and many others) and should be allowed to populate the team after the Championship, as Argentina is really an ageing team.

Tamati Ellison's sensational pass puts Ben Smith in for the try

Yeah he's having his heart condition checked every 6 months I think, it's something he's combined with playing top flight rugby, not like he had a sudden stroke or something, should be back in 2014. And what a player he is.

Tamati Ellison's sensational pass puts Ben Smith in for the try

Fair point, but I'd rather think it was just a blip (albeit a pretty big one), but he's back at running those odd and great lines that made him famous!

Although I do remember one specially ugly spear tackle on Gordon D'Arcy playing for the ABs against Ireland in Dublin...

Tamati Ellison's sensational pass puts Ben Smith in for the try

Amazing, but Liam Williams did a similar thing (though the ball travelled a shorter distance) against Japan and hardly anybody noticed haha.

On a side note, what a tough job Hansen has ahead of him regarding the centres. Although Ma'a is rediscovering his devastating best form, the loss of Ellison and Kahui to Japan, Conrad Smith on a second semestre sabbatical, Freuan out for he season having heart surgery and Ranger off to Montpellier (even if it is against his will), he should just pay attention to this game's roster. Ryan Crotty and Tom Marshall are two excellent options, as are Ben Smith , Jason Emery and Shaun Treeby. I'd especially like to see Treeby and Crotty in there.

Cheers

Alesana Tuilagi straight red card for high tackle on Jean de Villiers

Amazing stuff by De Villiers. Just amazing. Cool head and massive sportive attitude. Let the ref sort it out. Wow.

And Tuilagi - high, late off the ball, stiff arm to the neck with no attempt to wrap, very dangerous. Red and suspension seems right. And for those playing the "pacific islander ref bias" card - I agree there's a harsher treatment to them, but it's becasue repeated incidents like this one that Samoa, Fiji and Tonga have that ill fame. I hope Samoa can build on this massive good form they're showing and can keep to feature in the news for all the right reasons.

On a side note - It's very clear that Alesana enjoys his rugby haha. He always plays with a massive grin on his face. But this time it was just too much: player welfare must be always first priority in a game as brutal as rugby.

Cheers

Wallabies and British & Irish Lions teams named for first Test on Saturday

Oh dear God, Warren, what else can Seán O'Brien do to get a spot! I mean, Lydiate? He's a good player but he fulfills the same job Joe Worsley had in his day: cut the opposition attacks with strong, ankle aimed tackles and prevent them of building momentum. That's a player for a game plan from minute 0, not a back up player like Seán, who also can play 6,7 or 8 at a high standard. He tackles as much as Lydiate but also has a storming presence with ball in hand.

I predict that Lealiifano, Mowen and Folau will be the standout players in this match for the Ws, and Halfpenny will be as busy as ever. Wallabies will win this match by no more than 3 points.

Let the games roll!!!

The Brumbies upset the touring Lions with historic victory in Canberra

Also can anybody explain me why Wycliff Palu is starting on Saturday? A player WAY past his prime, who breaks in the big occasions. A bold approach would've been to pick Gill/Hooper/Mowen and let them roam and terrorise the Lions. Big shame that Higginbotham, Pocock and Smith got injured... massive strength in depth there for the Wallabies tough.
