The Brumbies upset the touring Lions with historic victory in Canberra

Yep that's what I meant haha. Weird how a star studded team as the Lions (for whom I held the biggest respect) struggled for 40' with a second string provincial side.

Anyway, can't wait for the tests!!

Yep that could be true, but I think the Lions should worry more about performances than results in the warm up matches, people will remember the Test Matches and the warm ups will be an anecdote... And in terms of performance they were put to the sword by the Reds and Brumbies, and for the first half of their game with the Tahs, a game they won because the stars like Halfpenny, Davies, et al clicked.

On a side note, Warburton's performance in the 1st Test will be critical for his starting aspirations on the 2nd and 3rd I think.

Cheers

Sorry forgot to mention the Reds match... which should have been won by the Reds for sure!

Best threw three not straight balls at the lineout, which in just too much and surely ruled him out for the tests. He's good on the loose but if you can't get the set pieces to work then you just can't play for the Lions in a Test match.

And those who say that this was an "inexperienced" Lions side... The had over 500 caps between them, versus less than 30 from the Brumbies. They were all quality individual players (the best from the UK & Ireland) so to say that it was an experimental Lions outfit is true, as they hadn't played together, but heck this is the bloody Lions, they are expected to perform.

On a side note, I think this match revealed the mediocre squad management Gats has been doing, and the whole "bring Shane for one match" thing really questions the seriousness of the Lions. Oh how he must be missin Jonny. Besides, the Lions got some momentum playing against mediocre opposition (I mena, combined country?really) and on the two tough matches they've played they almost came short to a second string Tahs and lost to the Brumbies... I think Australia will win 2-1.

Special mention for Matt Toomua, what a player. Robbie if you wanted a playmaker that tackles like a samoan then look no further.

Cheers

British & Irish Lions squad announcement - Sam Warburton named as captain

Hartley's inclusion is a shocker, he'll end in the bin every time he hits the pitch.

Regarding Maitland, it's funny how this guy played for a number of years in an oustanding Crusaders team, was a key part of their crazy attacking moves and overall exellence, always excelled while playing in what was the best team in the world for about three years in a row, and yet never made it into the All Blacks. Then he went to Glasgow, played some average games for Scotland in the 6N (which I think is evidently the 2nd Tier of international rugby) and makes the bloody Lions. This either speaks very well of Maitland or very bad of Scotland and WG. We shall see and I seriosuly wish he becomes a revelation!

Can't wait for june.

Jonny Wilkinson seals Man of the Match performance with trademark drop goal

Should abolutely travel as back up for Sexton. Biggar, Weir, Jackson, O'Gara just arenĀ“t that good to make the Lions and honestly Farrell can kick goals and tackle but he can't get a backline moving, and in the hard pitches of Oz that'll be a must. Wilko is a master at finishing games and he's up there with BOD and O'Connell in the experience front, so I say take him, Gats, you won't regret it.

Ian Madigan chip from behind tryline and winning try vs Glasgow Warriors

Now that D'Arcy and O'Driscoll look closer to retirement, I like the way a Sexton-Madigan-Marshall combo would look dor Ireland. Playing a second flyhalf at 12 would be something innovative as D'Arcy has been a through and through centre for a long time, but could add a dimension in attack for Ireland, and Marshall's ability to create and capitalise on breaks shouldn't go unnoticed to the future Ireland coach - let's hope it's Ewan Mckenzie
