Gloucester's Andy Hazell sees red following alleged eye-gouge

Ought to have talked to his captain about it, who then would have told the referee and the referee would then have a very serious talking too with Mont de Marsan and his touch judges. Honestly, people ought to know that if you go crazy like that, it's all the ref is gonna see. You have to be smart about something like eye gouging if you really want to stamp it out

Stirring Toulouse comeback ends with incredible late penalty-try victory

I don't think I've ever seen a runner on a break-away simply drop the ball. That guy must be kicking himself right now. Probably won't ever forget that.

And as for the scrums at the end, I don't know exactly what was going on. Ref probably made the right call as it seemed like most of the infringements were being committed by Bordeaux. But does it really take so many to make up his mind? I expect there will be serious complaints by Bordeaux about this.

That said, that must have been one of the most thrilling matches I've seen in a while. I can't even imagine being in the stadium for those last minutes of injury time. How tense that would have been...

Jonny Wilkinson keeps hope alive for 2013 British & Irish Lions tour

Tough choice here for Gatland. Fly-half is surely a position where there are many contenders, like Sexton and Flood. But it's hard to deny that Wilkinson would bring a lot of heart and a lot of experience (not just as a player but as a Lion). I'd even go so far as to include him on the list of potential captains because for the Lions I think you need to avoid naming one of the captains of the national sides as that could potentially lead to antagonism between his charges. Wilkinson would likely to be respected enough by all players to lead without that baggage. His distance from playing for England might actually help him in this respect.

So in conclusion, I'd say to Gatland: Bring Wilkinson, but only if you're prepared to make good use of him. Don't bring him along as a token. He can offer more to the Lions, not just as a fly-half

The Wallabies hold on for victory over Argentina in Rosario

A few things:
1) yes, the laser stuff was reprehensible, but logistically searching every spectator prior to a game is a nightmare. I don't think going so overboard would be an appropriate response to one jerk-off doing something like this. Let's also not forget how the announcer at the La Plata game asked spectators to be respectful and quiet when NZ's kickers were kicking
2) It the text it mentions how SA were overtaken by Aus because of the draw against Argentina. That's tangible evidence of what kind of an effect their inclusion is having. You can talk all day about the intangible stuff (playing quality, making the others change some tactics, shaking up assumptions, etc.) but at least they got something to hold up on the scoreboard
3) This game showed both sides that there are players on the bench who perhaps ought to start more often. For Aus this could be Higginbotham, Cummins, or Harris, and for Argentina this could be Sanchez or Imhoff. All of these guys impressed, and speaking as a neutral, I'd like to see all of them get more chances to show us their stuff

All Blacks remain unbeaten with strong win over Boks in Soweto

I thought it looked malicious when I saw it live, but seeing it again here I'm inclined to agree with Foxtrot. I think he was trying to hold it up or kick it out. Maybe it should get looked at, but after careful consideration I think they'll see it wasn't malicious.

Friday Funnies - Sione Kalamafoni penalised for hurdling a tackler

Yeah, it could have been dangerous if he gets his boots up in someone's face. But it also could have been bad for him if a tackler who's not expecting it clips his ankles mid-air and he falls on his neck. It was well handled though, ref just gives a penalty, short word to the player, player acknowledges and plays on. Super simple stuff

DTH van der Merwe beats defender, pulls hamstring, sets up try

Neither, actually. His family emigrated to Saskatchewan, and he later moved to BC.

All Blacks win the Rugby Championship with Argentina thumping

I completely agree. Judging by the ovation at the end of the game, the crowd was indeed rather respectful. World-class in my opinion, I'm starting to like Argentine rugby fans as much as I like Argentine rugby players :)
