Samoa stun Wales with impressive win at the Millennium Stadium

@Red Yeti, that's interesting, I though Scotland played South Africa yesterday...

Actually, on a side note, anyone noticed how the losing Scotland team has not resorted to penalty after penalty after penalty? 2 games against better teams and both the better teams have had yellow cards...

Samoa stun Wales with impressive win at the Millennium Stadium

I think other than the fact that Bakkies went off his feet at the end of the "Adam Jones incident" is the only reason that I would have a slight issue with it. Otherwise it was a fairly "legal" clearout...

Perhaps Bakkies knew EXACTLY what he was doing and was attempting to remove Adam Jones from the game, however he went about it in an "almost legal" fashion.

I do think that it was perhaps the fact that he is regularly "nasty" on the pitch and has probably has a bigger record than Billy the kid, which was the reason for the ban. There has to be consistency with bans: "Yes", however, two players who do the exact same thing can rightly receive different punishments taking into account their previous indiscretions... If Bakkies was a saint throughout his life, this may have been chalked down as "an accident", but because it's Bakkies and we all know what he gets up to, its "clearly, a demonstration of brutality, blah blah"...

You say that teams like Samoa get away with certain things more often, but how many times have we seen yellow cards/penalties for perfectly legitimate "P.I. tackles" because the referee's "subconsciously" know that no Pacific Islanders wrap, and it would be impossible to make a whiplash inducing tackle if they had wrapped....only to see on the replays that it was a perfect tackle...

Swings and roundabouts, P.I'ers get HAMMERED by the referee's for clean hard hits, so it's only natural that a referee would ignore the illegal bits...

Keep thinking this guys name is "Dale Denton"... I realise now that is a character from Pineapple Express....

....."Pineapple Express guy puts Richie McCaw on his backside"... now that would be impressive...

Argentina beat Wales in Cardiff for the first time in eleven years

In Matt Banahan's defence he did spend most of his rugby career as a second row. I'm not even sure whether he was still a second row when he was selected for pro rugby as a potential winger candidate...

Well I remember hearing about a Wales game in July(?) August(?) and people were talking about Rhys Priestland being somewhere up high in the world rankings, or taking his position in the top 10's in the world or something, I get the impression the media in Wales drums up players a lot more than they would appreciate...

I'm sure it's a lot of pressure to be labelled as "the next *anything*" when you're still in your first year or two of international rugby..

Rob Simmons escapes on-field punshment for dangerous tackle on Yannick Nyanga

I have got to agree with you with regards to the tackle... it was not "good" in a legality sense, however it was not the worst I've ever seen. I actually somewhat ignored the "late" part of it because like you, I truly felt that he was not aware of the ball being spilled...

Rob Simmons escapes on-field punshment for dangerous tackle on Yannick Nyanga

Interesting, thanks very much for that.. I had always wondered... especially when the referee is looking around and the crowd start booing horrendously when an act of foul play is re-shown on the big screen... I always think "if only he'd look up (or be allowed to look up) he'd see it right there"...

Rob Simmons escapes on-field punshment for dangerous tackle on Yannick Nyanga

Is the referee not allowed to look at the big screen? I mean there is hardly going to be any room for error, its not like the video replay that the referee would see will be in any way untrue to the incident itself....

As for the "turning yourself in" definitely a romanticised view. Of course it would be lovely to see this in some sort of honourable way... but that would mean the AB's would be without a 7 for most of their games... :P

But honestly it isn't feasible, as someone mentioned, the player would then be a liability to pick for the next game, you never know what he might own up to etc... Unless of course it became a level playing field where everyone owned up to their indiscretions, or just didn't commit them...

I thought the Warburton card was harsh, so in turn I think a red for this might have been harsh... but who knows nowadays...probably a 4 week ban as someone stated.

All Blacks gym session ahead of Scotland Test

p.s I realise my punctuation is pathetic in that above post "Brilliant in no way 2nd string" could be taken as "in no way is that guy brilliant, 2nd string" when in actual fact I mean "Brilliant, in no way is he 2nd string".... just to clarify...

All Black Adam Thomson's boot on Alasdair Strokosch's head

CC I seem to recall that you have been playing rugby for quite a few years, I don't understand how you can be so dead against using the boot... most players who played in "that era" killed the ball, lay on the wrong side, slowly rolled away, pulled down a maul, and most ended up with nasty lines across their backs and legs as a result. Stamping on the head is not nice, hence why I find this "borderline" as imo it was not a stamp, so I can understand not wanting that in the game, although I believe that was always disallowed, as was "stamping" itself, raking/rucking/the process of dragging ones studs across an oppositions body was never anything I cried about if I was on the receiving end...

Totally agree with you there Gonzo, this is definitely going to be one of those "stamp down on players that even THINK about this type of behaviour so it makes the game look nicer"... ;)
