Brian O'Driscoll dumped off the ball by Mauro Bergamasco

Penalty kick. Nothing more.

On the dummy runner argument, am I a cynic for suggesting that Bergamasco probably had a fair idea that BOD didn't have the ball? Maybe a body check would have been more appropriate than a full blown dump tackle.

Wesley Fofana scores outstanding try vs Toulouse after just 39 seconds

"Sit down, son", he says...

Great try, Clermont are without a doubt the team to beat in Europe.

Richard Kahui's huge hit on Ben Tapuai in Hamilton

Reminds me of the Palu hit on Kearney from a few years ago. Cliffy was yellow carded for that one even though there was more of an attempt to use arms in the tackle. I'm on the fence on this one. On one hand, it's great to watch. On the other, I'm reminded of Master Yoda; "Do or do not, there is no try". If the law says to use arms, attempting and failing is probably not good enough.

The Force upset the Crusaders with big defence amidst crowd control problems

Aside from the conterversy, it's great to see the Force finally on the right side of a couple of points margin' Sounds like their security does have something to answer for though, there's probably a hefty fine in it for the franchise. Maybe one for the Crusaders as well if it turns out that the invaders were their fans.

Paul O'Connell knocks out Dave Kearney with clumsy kick to the head

Well, I don't think it is foul play; which side would you award the penalty to would be the first problem. Your teammate might get upset about it though!

Calm down, mate. I'm just winding you up.

Paul O'Connell knocks out Dave Kearney with clumsy kick to the head

I never implied or inferred anything about citing or a ban. I merely said that kicking a player is foul play. For the BOD example, the operative word in 10.4 d) is 'opponent'. For Pretorious, he puts himself in the line of fire.

Looking forward to your next essay.

If you've refereed then you'll be familiar with 10.4 d). You can't kick an opponent. Possession or lack thereof is not a factor.

What you've described is definite foul play. A citing would be judged on the recklessness of the challenge and, it seems from this incident, intent.
