British and Irish Lions too strong for determined Waratahs in Sydney

I suspect thats purely down to Parlings lineout ability that isn't paralleled by any of the other locks, including Gray specifically. If you're playing Jones and O'Connell, Jones is the same kind of lock in terms of carrying etc, but Parling has something that none others do, and thats securing a situation if you're on the front foot and (more often than you'd think) pinch the ball at the lineup when you're on the back foot. Thats a good impact to be able to bring on.

Hello again! Gray is starting against the Brumbies, theres no chance he's featuring in the first test. For the record I think mrjmmic is spot on!

Shane Williams and Christian Wade called up and on the wings vs the Brumbies

I suspect the two locks starting against the brumbies (Gray and Evans) wont see even the test bench, not for the first match anyway. My thoughts are that Wyn-Jones and O'Connell will start with Parling on the bench (Which would be why he's on the bench for the brumbies. If he doesnt come on during that match then i'd say hes a pretty assured bet for the bench during the first test)

Let's be honest he must have had a fair idea who he wanted it to be pre-selection, thats a given, and I whole heartedly believe that he knows who he wants for the first team at least, and his selection for the Brumbies game is a reflection of that.

Funnily enough its because you can't pick players on their form in a match vs combined country or the western force. Puerile speculations like "where I know T or SOB would have flattened the guy" are beyond pointless. For one, that most definitely isn't the case, Tips isn't an especially big guy and gets shoved back occasionally and tackled more often than not when someone gets their hand on him... thats not to say that this detracts from him as a player by any means, same as Croft. Its Crofts skill as an all round 6 thats gets him the nod over O'Brien, not just an ability to break tackles. As for Warburton, i'd choose Tips over him personally, but thats not to say he doesnt have the potential to have just as good a game. So IMO its potentially the right call going with those two, don't forget, ability to lead from the front is one of Warburton's great assets. I think people were nailing O'Brien and Tipuric down from their 'amazing' performances against sub-par sides (not to say that i don't rate them, because I really do.)

British and Irish Lions thump Combined Country in Newcastle

Im not sure they'd risk having 2 out and out 7's instead of a 6 nd a 7. If Gats keeps to his word it should be Tipuric and either O'Brien or Croft... although even if it does go that way it'll be Lydiate that he picks. Although I have no doubts that Warburton'll be playing the first test regardless of form (or lack thereof).

Also, I recon Vunipola and Cole might get the start, unless they see Vunipola as a major impact player that can't sustain a full 80. Cole offers hugely more in the loose than Jones and not much less in the scrum!

Ireland take narrow win over USA in front of record crowd in Houston

Can I also add how disrespectfully the US captain was talking to the ref!

Cannot express (and im all for the US playing and everything) I could not stand listening to those American commentators talking about 'open field tackles' and how Ireland were 'playing defence'.

HSBC Lions Weekly - Perth and Brisbane

Hoggs always been cover for 10 so I guess he must have some experience there, totally agree about Cole for sure and Corbisiero has the potential no doubt! Although given that this is the 3rd game Cole has played in in however many days, he might not be fresh enough to show his best, heres hoping though!
