Hosea Gear bumps Keith Earls out the road on his way to the tryline

What an offload! Conrad Smith is just class, everyone goes on about depth in positions but he's the one that keeps that backline ticking over and you won't be finding a replacement for him any time soon. His decision making in defence and attack is so consistently good and I feel its a great shame he's so under appreciated.

Also I'm not a big fan of the forearm to bump people off, in fact I remember playing in a match when i was younger where the ref gave a straight red so I can't be the only one... Banahan did that against Kelly Brown a few years ago and that was fairly controversial with people asking how it's acceptable to hit out with the forearm just because you are holding the ball when it wouldn't be allowed from a tackler. I know in this video it isn't the same thing but I still think its ugly and dangerous.

As for Earls, its not his fault Kidney keeps moving him anywhere between 12 and 15 whenever he feels like it.

Springboks go one-up in the series with Durban win over England

Again like Robshaw and Warburton I think they are very different, Lydiate is deceptively good at the breakdown and he's actually quite mobile and I can't remember him missing a tackle. I think he offers a lot when things are tight and hes another player thats always doing the simple stuff well. He bossed the French in the 6N and they haven't got a half bad back row..

Ferris is definetely more dynamic and I think had the highest tackle count for the Irish but I still don't think we saw him in the kind of form he's been in in the past, he wasn't helped by some dodgy decisions and his teammates at the 6N and it meant we didn't actually see much of his attacking game which is beastly (Lions 09 comes to mind). Based on that I just see Lydiate as the favourite right now although my mind may change if the wales back row fail to contain the aussies in the two games.

Interesting stats, what sort of fascinates me is how you never really notice Robshaw unless you properly watch him. I remember when he first hit the scene for Quins thinking he doesn't really do much but noticing just a general solidity to him. You sort of barely notice him but if you watch him he is always there doing the basics very well, all of the time.

Warburton is a very different type of player and captain, he just appears to be more explosive and noticeable (at least in the WC) but recently he seems to be shut down defensively when players start sniping and picking and driving around the fringes - kind of makes me wonder if teams have begun to figure him out? I think we need to see how the respective series progress - I can see SA improving massively now that they've been together and the same for Wales so I think we need to wait and see how it pans out.

Also I'd throw in a dark horse candidate for Lions captain, someone who I think has been one of the best rugby players over the last 18 or so months - Dan Lydiate, surely the favourite for the no 6 jersey?

Celebrating Dan Carter's milestone of 100 Super Rugby games

I try and avoid these debates because it's a bit of a chicken or egg argument. But as good as DC is and even if I personally think he's probably the best 10, he's never really been at the top of his game in world cups and pulled out a stand out performance.

I know a lot of it is down to bad luck due to a variety of reasons like age, ref decisions and injuries but in WCs he just hasn't had a headline moment. Purely on that basis you can make a case for some of the fly halves of the past like Lynagh, larkham, andrew even lamaitre being at the top and I think thats one of the main arguments for JW; 2 world cup finals including an assist, a winning drop goal and 21 points.

Celebrating Dan Carter's milestone of 100 Super Rugby games

Absolutely class act, cheers RD.

Over the last few weeks I've watched quite a few documentaries and interviews of players like Jonny Wilkinson, Shane Williams and now Dan Carter and there's a wonderfully humble nature to all of these great players despite their spectacular rugby talents. It's good to see that despite the professional era the best players understand how important hard work is for success and when they achieve it, enjoy it and yet still maintain their class on and off the pitch without getting carried away with the rewards it brings. It's one of the really special thing about rugby and I hope it continues long into the future as well.

Will Skinner red carded from the bench as Harlequins beat Toulouse

Whats with the comedy dramatic overreactions from everyone? This has been happening for ages. Not as if the French are any better, they get their dads to interfere with play. Plus I dont think many people actually watched the match, Toulouse werent much better on the sportsmanship front and their crowd were a typically disrespectful French crowd booing some fantastic rugby by the Quins. Odd thing is I think Quins play their best rugby when everyone hates them, Thormond Park last year comes to mind although Munster fans are a vocal but respectful bunch on the whole.

Best Tries of the Top 14 - Top Ten so far

Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. Picking a favourite would be like trying to pick my favourite organ. French rugby going strong.

Alesana Tuilagi and Tom Wood red carded following touchline brawl

I completely agree with you, punch ups should be left to be discussed in the boxing forums.

Most people usually watch Perpignan matches with one eye on average. If anyone used both eyes I think their brains would be overwhelmed by the red yellow hazard light omelette kit thing they have going on.
