Romain Poite enjoys the funny game, but Geordan Murphy disagrees

Well, strictly speaking any tackle above the shoulders is a penalty. But referees rarely penalise for a tackle like this one here. Also, he was almost fully stopped before the tackler went above the shoulder line. The tackler does make an immediate effort to roll away but number 8 charges into him and pins him to the ruck. The tackler then gets away after that. Pretty niggly penalty to give to be honest. If you want to get niggly and ruin the flow of the game, you could also penalise number 8 for immediately going off his feet or for repeatedly going off his feet after first making contact with the ruck. These types of niggly penalties happen all the time and referees let them go as they effect the game. If a referee was to blow up absolutely every single penalty then games would be ruined.

Making contact is not making a tackle. Read the current rule book and there wouldn't even be a debate about it.

Making contact is not making a tackle. According to the current IRB law book, this is a tackle: A tackle occurs when the ball carrier is held by one or more opponents and is brought to ground. So, Best wasn't a tackler so he was allowed to join the ruck.

Not sure if you know this, but the rules have been like this for a while now. It's nothing new. Anyway, it doesn't matter as Best didn't make a tackle.

Munster and Simon Zebo dispatch Northampton Saints

Well, clearly you aren't a Munster fan. I make a reasonable observation, certainly a more accurate one than Hurley's pass "absolutely a mile forward" and you jump on the "red-tinted glasses" boat. And then you go on and slate the Munster team for, even if the sentence was intended in the way you originally saw it, a very mild comment. Either way, unnecessary. Any idiot can start a fight over nothing on the internet.

Clearly? Absolutely not. In fact, after taking a closer look I would say that the pass was not even flat, but backwards.

Moment of ball release: http://i461.photobucket.com/albums/qq336/bbb3dd/d-1.png

Zebo catches it with his right hand which is well behind the horizontal mark. The ball's overall movement was towards the tryline but what matters is that the ball was not realeased out of the hands in a forward direction.

Not sure if what I wrote about the left hand is clear. But basically, the ball touches the right hand first (the hand further behind) and brings his left hand back to keep the ball secure in his hands.

Meant to say if it was a mistake, I'd say it. There were plenty in there for both sides. Had to laugh at POC's joke of a pass.

I thought a scrum was about technique, not sheer strength. Anyway, they are breaking the rules so they should be penalised even if they are stronger.

I'm not a Munster fan, but thanks for that unnecessary, useless, sarcastic comment. If it was a mistake I'd see it. Seems to me like you just don't like them. I've seen many a person bitter about Munser.

That is not correct. If you extend your arm as the player did, then a legal pass is possible.

Anyway, I had a closer look and here is a moment the ball is released: http://i461.photobucket.com/albums/qq336/bbb3dd/d-1.png The lines may be slightly off, but they're fairly close. Notice that Zebo brings his left hand (the further forward hand) back to secure the ball in his right hand in the video. That would suggest that the ball was actually released slightly backwards.

Calum Clark I think. Murray isn't small though.
