Andrew Hore cited for off the ball stiffarm on Bradley Davies

You can spare me the cultural angle. That's not going to work on me.

Three things: Firstly, comments about lazy or obstructive running are a joke. People do that in every game. If that's lazy running, then just about every ruck needs to be blown up for the same. I think people are just scraping the barrel for some kind of mitigation here.

And secondly, I believe Hore deliberately dropped his knee into Davis's head after knocking him down, and this is where the damage occurred. Look again at 1:54. Davis is clearly out cold before he slams into the turf, but then Hore drops his left knee solidly into Davis's temple area - he even seems to drop his knee quicker than would be necessary to join that ruck in order to connect with the head - and what happens to the neck and head in that picture is just horrible.

And finally, I don't think it's a coincidence that incidences like this and the O'Driscol spear happen in the opening passages of the game. The All Blacks are so pumped up from their Haka that the red mist is not far away. Screaming at your opponent that you're going to slit their throat and crush them just minutes earlier is not unrelated to this madness.

Obstructive running? No one's going to take that seriously. You're probably just trying to wind people up anyway.

Wales score bizarre try with thirteen man lineout against the All Blacks

The O'Driscol spear tackle was also in the opening passage of play - also completely cynical, clearly meant to injure and seemingly premeditated. Could it be that the red mist from the Haka needs to settle before they start the game?

He'll be gone for a long time. After the Thomson incident, with the IRB appealing his lenient sentence, they won't want to be seen favouring the All Blacks again. I reckon at least 6 games, which would equate to a good few months. But who knows - stranger things have happened.

Shortlist for IRPA Try of the Year 2012 announced

Savea’s try was good, but certainly not a “try of the year”.

Malzieu’s try looked great, but three of those four attempted tackles were horrendously bad.

Habana’s try is one of those where the right bounce turns a speculative gamble into a great try. So a little lucky, but still great to watch.

And Gear’s try was pure powerhouse stuff – love the way he lined up the poor tackler and dismissed him.

For me it’s a toss-up between Gear and Habana.

Being upended in one tackle does not make a player look average. It was a great hit, but being caught off balance like that would have landed anyone on his arse. If he looks "average at best" after that hit, I guess your standards must be impossibly high and no one measures up.

Like adding FULL STOP makes it so. So you would have given him 12 weeks while the panel dismissed it? You're definitely in the right job.

Not joking at all. There was clearly nothing in this, but this over-eagerness to cite does lasting damage to a player's reputation regardless of the outcome. It didn't take most people here long to dismiss it as nothing, so why could Mansell not apply his mind in he same way?

It's a maul and players scrap to secure the upper hand, grappling with each other. As soon as Etzebeth realises he's got the guy by the cheek (yes, the cheek, look again), he lets go.

The same weekend there were far worse incidents that went uncited - the Samoan shoulder charge clean-out on the Welsh flyhalf comes to mind - but now Etzebeth must carry another notch on his dirty play reputation for nothing. You can say what you like, but this stuff adds up.

And in future, if I intend to make a joke, I'll be sure to ad a :) just to clear up any possible confusion.
