New Japanese Super Rugby team confirmed as being called The Sunwolves

Welcome Sunwolves. Pity you're going to lose your first game. But don't lose heart.

England knocked out of home World Cup by outstanding Wallabies

He was good. Some big carries and he had those two charge-downs. But really, when your team is knocked out of the world Cup by 33-13, and when a guy like David Pocock played the way he did, this is beyond silly.

Cipriani was quoted as saying no Australian player would make this England team, but I suspect what he meant was "No Aussie would be seen dead in this England team".

Argentina and Tonga score great tries in entertaining Pool C clash

This was, for me, one of the best games of the World Cup. I know the score looks like a hammering, but it didn't feel like that at all. Both teams played the perfect spectator rugby - fast, wide, good angles, great offloads. The two Pumas wings, Cordero and Imhoff, were just so good. And Nicolas Sanches put in a masterful performance at flyhalf. If the Pumas can sort out their discipline issues (No. 5 lock, I'm looking at you), they can be real contenders.

Fantastic performance by the Aussies. Their scrum, aside from a couple of early wobbly ones, was dominant over a supposedly superior England tight 5. And both Pocock and Foley were in sublime form.

Can someone then please explain how, despite these performances and the 33-13 score, they still managed to name Launchbury as Man of the Match?

South Africa go top of Pool B with comfortable win over Scotland

Decent performance by the Boks. Trickiest selection dilemma for Heyneke Meyer is how to tell Victor Matfield that he won't be needed henceforth. Lood de Jager pretty much put down his name in pen on the team sheet.

I suspect SA will top the pool with Scotland second. Aus vs Wales will then determine who plays who in the quarters. That should be an absolute cracker of a match as I'm sure neither of them want to deal with SA in the quarters.

I was also very impressed with the way Nigel Owens handled the match, and particularly his refusal to be swayed by Ayoub's strange insistence that JP Petersen be sent off for a "tip" tackle. There was nothing in the tackle and, if anything, the Scottish player seemed to duck his head down towards the ground to make it look like he was dumped on his head.

TMO interference aside, I think most of the refereeing in the competition has been very good.

South Africa bounce back with convincing victory over Samoa in Birmingham

Jaco Kriel's omission is the biggest stuff-up in our WC squad. He should be starting at 6. In fact, he could captain this side. On performance alone, he would walk into any other team in the world.

Really sucks for Jean de Villiers. He's had the worst possible luck in three World Cups. And I really think Jan Serfontein is a great player, but I would have gone for Lionel Mapoe as a replacement for de Villiers. He's been in such good form the past year. Rock solid on defence, and covers 11, 12, 13, 14. I suspect Heyneke Meyer forgot that the Golden Lions Rugby Union exists. I mean, even Scotland came closer to selecting a Lions player for the World Cup than Heyneke Meyer did.

Wales come from behind to beat hosts England at Twickenham

His predecessor at the Stormers, Andries Bekker, also had a way of dealing with the little ones.
