Ireland start campaign with comfortable win over Scotland

Based on this performane, I think it might be a long campaign for us Scots this year. We've still got some time to turn things around and we've got some good players but Johnson needs to rethink some positions. We need to sort the backrow - play Brown at 6 where he's best, start with Beattie rather than the one dimensional and completely useless Dave Denton who never passes, never breaks a tackle and does little else around the pitch, and start a genuine openside at 7 (Fusaro, Barclay or Rennie). Ford needs to go at hooker and hopefully Matt Scott will be fit to play 12 as he's becoming a really good player and his distribution will work nicely alongside Weir's kicking game. Laidlaw should be dropped for Cusiter who adds more urgency and speed of distribution. Hopefully if they sort the set piece and get some of the key players motoring we'll at least be competitive and give ourselves a fighting chance of picking up a win or two.

Thought Owens was good. And like always I though Joubert was poor.

Nigel Owens shows Anthony Allen the way to the football stadium

A referee once penalised my team 10 additional metres because of a look I gave him. I assured him that was just my face but he didn't believe me.

The biggest punches and worst fights in French domestic rugby

I was taught similar things in Scotland (not eye gouging, though). Anything to help get a physical advantage over the opposition was encouraged and often worked. And there were no afters, as described above. On some rugby tours in France at school level games always descended into mass brawls. Didn't know if it was because we were a touring team or if that was just normal for them. It seems like it was just normal. We certainly learnt a thing or two after those matches which made us a better team.

Woodward, Guscott and Davies?! Are you kidding me. The worst rugby commentators on TV.

The Springboks end satisfying year with victory over France in Paris

Also, whoever the French lad milking the getting pushed in the face while on the ground needs to grow a pair. Can you imagine what the French forwards of the 70s and 80s would have made of that.

Wayne Barnes is a terrible ref. You can guarantee he will card somebody in a game he officiates. I struggle to remember a game that he has reffed which I have enjoyed. As somebody else has said, he needs to take a leaf out of Nigel Owens book of refereeing.

Agreed. It does like he deliberately repositions to land more vertically.

Tevita Kuridrani receives five week suspension for dangerous tackle

Spot on. As I've said go back and watch some of the TSRB (when is the next one coming by the way!) and the majority of these tackles, which we all think are wonderful, would today be considered illegal and result in a ban - think about Tindall's tackle on Gregan in the WC Final. Great hit but the 'nanny' rugby fans would today call for him to be banned for 8 weeks.

Tevita Kuridrani receives five week suspension for dangerous tackle

He doesn't get driven anywhere. He does go vertical but he's not driven dangerously into the ground and if anything gently lands on his front - his arm is the first thing to hit the ground. He lands like this because Kuridrani does his best to bring his leg back down resulting in the "gentle" landing. With most dangerous tip tackle the players leg is usually driven down in force on head/shoulder. Kuridrani actually falls over backwards in an attempt to bring the leg down.

Agree lifting a player is just totally stupid in this day and age and not worth the risk but to red card the player and then ban him extreme. A yellow card and penalty would have been fair.
