The Springboks end satisfying year with victory over France in Paris

As a point of interest, can anyone tell me if Uget (?) has to get back behind the back foot of the ruck to be onside at 2:12, or do the advancing French players 'bring him onside' in the same way as with kick chases?

I hate to agree with anything bad said about Habana, other than he was a fool to leave the Bulls. But I think you might be right here.

That was precisely my thought at the time as well.

I'm concerned about the future of rugby as well, but only because I can't believe players could be so stupid. They know there are cameras everywhere, and they know that the referees can use them during the match now. So why are you putting your hand into another player's face!? These are supposed to be professional grown ups, not petulant 9 year olds. The rules are there, they have always been there, and they are quite clear. If your team gets caught doing something stupid then don't blame the referee for seeing it, blame the idiot who decided to flaunt the rules in plain sight.

Wallabies reclaim third in the world spot after win over Scotland

Surely you aren't suggesting there is a player on the international circuit at the moment with more x-factor or excitement in his game than Joel Tompkins!?

I fully agree with your second point, but I would say that a pitch that prevents effective scrummaging (if that was the case) is definitely a benefit to Australia and probably serves to nullify Scotland's best weapon.

Wales claim hard-fought win over tough Tonga in Cardiff

I never bothered to watch the game in full because I heard it was dreadful, but from watching this it looks like everyone in the welsh team was trying to score themselves, and that made both tries much more work than was probably needed.

Tevita Kuridrani receives five week suspension for dangerous tackle

I agree that the refs hands are tied, and I don't really have a problem with them having made the decision to follow the rules. My problem is that this is not the type of incident that that set of rules was introduced to prevent.
That Tom James clip is interesting, and illustrates the issue about outcomes not being relevant, but James did at some stage make the decision to headbutt Azam (however lightly). It was a deliberate act, where as this tackle looks to me to just be a combination of confusion, poor timing and a complicated group of men fighting.

Wing JP Pietersen's big tackle on Eighthman David Denton

I don't think it is a delicate approach at all, there are rules to this game, and when you don't follow them as blatantly and as willingly as Pieterson I think you should be made an example of.

Does that seem right to you though? Because in every other part of life outcome and intent have a massive bearing on the penalty imposed on you for your actions.
