Romain Poite takes a low blow as Jannie Du Plessis sees red in Top 14 play-off

eh hold on (!) that wasn't exactly a death grip now was it?

I mean, he could have _easily_ got stepping one step backwards. Or to his right. Ball was going that way anyway.

Holding on is wrong but it happens all the time in a ruck, just less visibly. So its only kind of wrong. Punch or two to the holding arm and he's shown the ref the problem and avoided a card of any description most likely.

He was a bit silly. This holding incident was wrong and should have been penalized, but he didn't deal with it well.

A closer look at how Professionalism has changed Rugby

agree 10 st 10 - that video was a horrible piece of spin, esp at the start. Expanding the game in general and the current pay per view trajectory are not the same thing!
For the facts of viewership (which helps with expanding the game) see this excellent article by Dr Paul Rouse - not just rugby, but it is so telling in how the move to pay per view reduces the audience - it _does not_ expand it.

Francois Steyn red carded for attempting to take Johnny Sexton's head off

Of all number 10s at this level of the game, is there another who is targeted as much as Sexton?

(I know they all are targeted a bit, and that's part of the game, but I'm also curious.)

i think the clue as to whether it was a dangerous head high tackle is in the title of this article.

Dylan Hartley facing another large ban after knocking out Sean O'Brien

Thought so - just in time for the big matches....and just before an announcement of a tougher stand from world rugby on head action.

Here's his roll call of honour...he seems to like taking chunks out of Irish lads in particular

Dylan Hartley facing another large ban after knocking out Sean O'Brien

And what about Sean O Brien? A guy who should actually travel with the Lions, and probably start - unlike Hartley - is knocked out after struggling with injury for ages. Concussion is not something you want to be experiencing too often.

All of this poor DH bullshit, he's let himself down, how will this impact the Lions yada yada.

He hardly ever even starts for Northampton ffs!

Because of the England and Eddy Jones/Lions factor, expect Hartley back just in time for the important games in the 6N. I hope I'm wrong on this, but I really doubt it.

The 'tackle' itself, with that horizontal swinging arm? Come on!

Sean O Brien for the Lions Captaincy :-)

Kiwi in Germany are you looking specifically for cases of AUS being hard done by here or are you looking at all cases of ref mistakes?

New Zealand avenge previous loss with bruising win over Ireland

i don't think there is any special animosity towards NZ after the match in Ireland actually - I don't think it'll sour relations in the future or whatever - genuinely - Warren Gatland's potty mouth does more to annoy people in reality.
Irish folk are in general delighted to have finally beaten them and done reasonably well the second time - ie not capitulation, as many had feared.
And they know the best team won.
I'm suprised Rugbydump has actually started another tread on this, after I'd imagine we're more or less finished talking about it!
Fundamentally, NZ play a brilliant and v high tempo brand of rugby and in many ways its good that its on the edge. The alternative? Look at the English and French championships. Boring as hell and brutal anyway.
