England defeat France in Paris in Six Nations classic

Watching the match on the Beeb: "Oh [sipping tea], I'll say, that was a somewhat spectacular try, wasn't it Jeeves? [sluuurp]"
Watching the match on French TV: "OH MY GOD AAAH THE FINAL MINUTES ARE INSANE THEY'RE AAAHHHH THE BALL GOES AAAAH WHAT A MATCH!!"

Great match: England consistent throughout, France up and down. That's "experience" for you. France was expected to emerge on top, with 600+ caps to England's 190 caps, but all that this exposed was that France, since 2010, has been a team of old hay-cutting vehicles, incapable of running as fast as their Ferrari opponents.

France leave Murrayfield victorious after Scotland scare

According to lindépendant.fr, at the post-match dinner, Ford (Scottish captain) gave Mas a "taste-vin", which is a recipient designed to taste wine. According to Jo Maso, manager of the French squad since the 90s, this is a first time occurrence in French rugby!
Very cool gesture from the Scotts. Ahhh, the Auld Alliance ...

France leave Murrayfield victorious after Scotland scare

1) My brother, clad in part-French part-Scottish gear, was at Murrayfield next to a Scottish buddy with a French girlfriend, he said the atmosphere was incredible and a million times better than at the Stade de France, which compared to smaller stadiums in France (like the ones in Toulouse or Clermont), is said to be a bit snotty and boring.

2) I don't think the French were stunned, it looked more as though it were the Scotts who were just on a total rampage.

3) Scotland and Wales have a definite advantage over France and Ireland for upcoming tournaments: age

4) Trinh-Duc complained a few times about late tackles, still a bit immature compared to Wilko or Carter who'll just absorb a dozen late tackles per match

5) I think members of the Scottish third-row might even make the Lions before Richie Gray (Denton & Rennie in particular)

6) I don't know what happened when Servat and Debaty entered, but they are both known to be explosive players, so if you have them come on at the 60th minute mark, they are bound to do some damage.

France leave Murrayfield victorious after Scotland scare

Scotland has been losing major games by a few points only even before the world cup, but this year you can tell they've become a formidable force. The French were lucky on a few bounces, and it's only when the forward packs started changeing that France reasserted itself in the front 8.
I dare to say that the 1st French try comes from a forward flick-pass from Clerc to Fofana. I also don't understand how the 2nd Scottish try was allowed. Jones tackles, a ruck is then formed, but he just picks the ball up from the French side of the ruck where he finds himself ater his tackle and then goes and scores? If that's allowed then all teams should do it. Tackle, wait a bit for opposing defenders to commit themselves, pick the ball and up and score (and later argue that you're not offside since you're the tackler).

Wales claim the Triple Crown with nail biting win over England

True, you only need downward pressure if you're not in control of the ball when you ground it.

Super Rugby 2012 Profiles - The South African teams

Hey pâtéofrabbit, I think the "that-was-a-forward-pass" Michalak was just meant as one of those iconic remarks about a player, just as for instance one would associate Clément Poitrenaud with his mistake in the 2004 HC final (now infamously known in France as a "Poitrenaude"), McCaw with enjoying life on the side of rucks, and Bakkies Botha with smiling at someone he's just elbowed in the back of the neck. Don't take it personally, I for one think that the RD man has shown over the years that he is capable of being nearly 49.9% neutral (in worst case scenarios).

Blues vs Crusaders Highlights - Super Rugby Round 1

Which reminds me, don't forget that it's the end of summer over in NZ, a time of year when even the English teams all play running rugby. It's when it starts raining all the time and getting muddy that the game undergoes a transformation. Super rugby ends around July when it rains all the time in NZ.

Blues vs Crusaders Highlights - Super Rugby Round 1

Looked like a cracker! I'm glad I'll be able to watch some Super rugby starting this week, Canal+ will show one or two games a week here in France.
But remember that this is only a 2 min highlight of the game, the other 78 min were perhaps very boring :)
In the Top14 there are only 5, max 6 teams that play an expansive style of running rugby, and in the Premiereship perhaps only 2 or 3 (Saracens and co), so the NZ games are indeed more spectacular in that area of the game. But I personally like everything in rugby, I like the gritty muddy forward games as much as the wild running games.

Matt Giteau steps up as Toulon score late try against Stade Francais

You have to appreciate how the Toulon replacement hooker kicks the ball for his backs at 5:00. If Toulon had scored a try then, the guy would have been lauded as a genius!

Matt Giteau steps up as Toulon score late try against Stade Francais

Wilkinson is out for 2 months, Armitage was pretty damn good, Sackey's slap on Aurioli (the substitute hooker trying to break up the fight) was unexpected and weird to say the very least. A very intense match, I thought Stade Français started looking really good only when Warwick went back to his normal position at fullback (some kid had started at number 15, while Warwick had started the game at 10 and was average at it). Contempomi comes off the bench at number 10 => and the team wakes up! Toulon are starting to look formidable.
