Francois Trinh-Duc creates magical try for Julien Tomas vs Sale

What made Carling so good at tormenting the French back then was that he added "sorry": "sorry, good game".

Juan De Jongh scores great try vs Sharks, celebrates with Gangnam Style

I am still fundamentally opposed to overblown try celebrations (dances for instance).

This weekend I played in a tournament, and on the way back from the field and to the dressing rooms, we forwards were walking along ahead, talking about the things we screwed up ("I missed one tackle, what about you?") while 10 meters behind us the backs were all excitedly talking about their tries. Just saying ...

It just seemed important, the way he showed his left wristband's message to the camera after scoring this try. Here in France Will Carling's messages still haunt a lot of international players and their descendents. It was the ultimate rub-in, both polite and horrible at the same time.

Is it just my imagination or does Julien Thomas' wristband (the scrum-half who scored the try) read: "GG" for "Good Game", as a reference to the catch-phrase of the Anglo-French rugby rivalry? (ie. in the late 1980s and early 1990s, Will Carling, the England captain, would say "sorry good game" to French players after each English victory in the "Crunch", just to rub it in a bit deeper).

Scott Higginbotham cited twice for knee and head-butt on Richie McCaw

Thanks for the lesson, my child.

Christopher Tolofua cited following red card for tip-tackle against Treviso

Here in Toulouse he's reputed to be a somewhat shy teddy bear, so I'm sure this action had more to do with him being young and foolish (moronic, so to speak) than anything else.

You haven't seen the last of him, he's a good ball carrier, strong in the scrum, 18 years old, and part of France's selection for the autumn tests against Australia, Argentina and Samoa.

Heineken Cup 2012 Best Tries - Round 1

I had the Botha dummy at 2nd (Cardiff's first featured try being on top), and the Ulster counter at 3rd.

Well I did warn that this was my carebear vision of rugby. I agree that leadership takes much more than being exemplary at the breakdown, but I like to think that it's better when a captain is.
On a sidenote, I'd love to rewatch a video from a few years back ; it was a TV panel with a few international players, and Dallaglio was among them. The host asks them all, at some point, who was the biggest cheat they had ever known, and they all silently turned and looked at Dallaglio!
I can imagine the same sort of thing happening with Ritchie in a few years:)

The one thing I find detestable in Ritchie Dallaglio McCaw is that he is a captain. In my carebear vision of rugby, captains are deontologically sound men who lead by example. Men such as Sam Warburton, Thierry Dusautoir, Johnny Wilkinson, Chris Paterson [...]

I've watched a few off-field interviews of McCaw and from those have concluded long ago that he surely is a great guy, but on the pitch he's somewhat of a cheat (to put it mildly) and for that matter alone Kiwis should not make him a captain. There are a lot of great play-by-the-book ABs who'd make a greater captain.

Oh, it's actually Mealamu who gets penalized. McCaw is probably only using Kevin M's diversion to nibble at the ball while no one is watching.
Doesn't change HigginB's ridiculousness.
