Ireland and Wales open Six Nations campaigns with a frustrating draw

Thanks KK, been playing rugby for years and genuinely wasn't aware of this 10 metre rule (whoops), though I've just checked it out here: http://laws.worldrugby.org/index.php?law=11&language=EN

11.4 a) has an interesting point:

"The offside player must immediately move behind the imaginary 10-metre line or the kicker if this is closer than 10 metres".

My interpretation is that he doesn't need to retreat 10 metres from where the ball lands, but just behind the kicker. So once the kicker passes him, he is onside.

However you may be right that since his initial movement is forward, this is enough to penalise him.

I love rugby but I can understand why my girlfriend doesn't have a clue what's going on.

Ireland and Wales open Six Nations campaigns with a frustrating draw

Can anyone explain to me the reason Tomas Francis was called offside after Lloyd Williams' box kick? Was it for being in front of the ball when the kick was taken? (1.42 in above vid).

To my mind he never chases the kick, but retreats behind his scrum half, and then plays the ball once Ireland have knocked it on.... Eddie Butler stupidly said in BBC commentary 'Wales are not 10', which means absolutely nothing in that context. I'm not sure what the ref signals, and there's no mic connection at the time, so.... someone please enlighten me!

Chris Ashton penalised for dragging Luke Marshall down by the face

Deliberate or not, dangerous or otherwise, Chris Ashton has once again shown he has zero technique!

Wasps thump Toulon in Champions Cup upset in Coventry

i still don't like that wasps moved to coventry. the decision has been vindicated by increased crowds and improved performance, but it will always seem wrong to me!

Most Memorable Tries of the 2015 Rugby World Cup

Savea's try was outrageous. Absolutely bulldozed three big Frenchies!

I seem to remember some pretty awesome scores in the Argentina Tonga game?

Argentina knock Ireland out with convincing Quarter Final win

I've been really impressed with Argentina in this tournament, such power, pace and determination in their phase play and a willingness to always go forward. I'll be supporting them for the remainder of the tournament (now that literally every other team i've backed has been ejected!!!)

Wallabies snatch victory from courageous Scots at the death

Not sure I follow these conspiracy theories about Joubert, but TMO protocol allows for the review of suspected foul play and important decisions, so I think it should apply to the final penalty yesterday.

Nevertheless, Scotland really shouldn't be throwing to the tail in torrential rain! Bad luck otherwise though, they put in a hell of a performance (damn sight better than England!).

Wales come from behind to beat hosts England at Twickenham

Yes I'm English, but those two penalties look really soft to me.

The first one was a fair contest but then Brown is cleared away and the ball is ready for the Welsh scrummie to play. The delay on the ball coming back is fractional.

Garces didn't allow for any breakdown contest all night, but even this example seems pretty hasty of him to blow up. I guess it was due to the field position, because there's no way this would have been called a pen if the tackle was made on the original gain line (about 30 metres back).
