All Blacks superstar Ardie Savea dropped a bombshell piece of news over the weekend as he confirmed he will be joining Moana Pasifika next season.
His departure from Super Rugby semi-finalists the Hurricanes brings to an end a fruitful decade with the Wellington based side. Playing a key role in the side’s only Super Rugby title to date back in 2016, the reigning World Player Of The Year departs the region on a positive note.
Discussing Savea’s move, Wellington chief executive Avan Lee said, “While we are sad to see him go, he’s been a fantastic Hurricane.
“He had a clause in his contract to play for another Super team.
“The relationship with Ardie is very good. We just wish him all the best.”
Whilst Savea’s move has been met with widespread positivity as he looks to play homage to his Samoan heritage. Former All Black star turned commentator Sir John Kirwan offered an interesting take on the move.
“Don’t get me wrong, I want Moana Pasifika to be great. But is it good for Ardie Savea if they have another season where they are second to last?”
“Is that going to help us as All Blacks that Ardie is going to be coming from possibly doing extra or struggling?
“It’ll be a bigger workload.” Kirwin said.
