England vs Scotland live blog | 2025 Six Nations
The Allianz Stadium is bouncing and both sides are ready to to battle over the Calcutta Cup.
1st minute: Fin Smith kicks high into the sky to the right as the home crowd prepares for what should be a blockbuster of a match.
2nd minute: Henry Slade clips a tidy kick to the corner to build an attacking position for the home side as they look to create some early dominance over the visitors.
3rd minute: Scotland come away with the first points of the game through Ben White as he finishes off a wonderful team try. It was all set up by Duhan van der Merwe from his own half as he raced through the England defence before offloading to White. Russell misses the conversion, but it’s the ideal start for Scotland.
8th minute: Tommy Freeman makes the most of the incessant try line pressure by England, charging over for his side’s first. Marcus Smith converts between the posts. Question marks remain over the grounding, but the referee seems unfazed. 7-5.
11th minute: Scotland won’t go down without a fight. Kyle Row is causing the English defence so many issues and Jamie Ritchie has secured a turnover to gain a great attacking position.
12th minute: Blair Kinghorn throws an audacious one-handed pass which hits his teammate on the head.
15th minute: Kinghorne did it again…this time to Dave Cherry. These offloads aren’t currently working.
17th minute: Tom Curry is on the ground receiving medical treatment, not good news for England fans.
19th minute: Scotland power on with yet another try, this time through the impressive Huw Jones. The former Harlequins star touches down in the left-hand corner after another wonderful Scotland backs move opened up the English defence.
24th minute: The Scotland scrum fails again under the weight of the English unit – a common probably this afternoon.
26th minute: Finn Russell brings back some normality to the Scotland attack with a well-worked low spiral to the corner, gaining valuable territory for the men in dark blue,
28th minute: Marcus Smith shanks a kick into the stands under very little pressure as his day continues to get away from him.
33th: Ball on halfway, Scotland lineout. Penalty given to Scotland. Russell goes for the corner but hits the 22-metre line as he fails to gain sufficient yards to generate a good attack.
38th minue: England win a defensive penalty and Ben Earl fistpumps…
4oth minute: England attack ends with Lawrence out the back pass to the touchline. Half time.
England are looking asleep, with Scotland in full control of the match.
44th minute: Sleightholme replaced by Daly – a tactical move after the Northampton man has struggled under the high ball throughout.
46th minute: Duhan is scaring England every time he gets the ball. The panic is palpable.
53rd minute: An England try-scoring opportunity is squandered when Fin Smith chooses the wrong option. He goes short to Slade rather than Smith on the outside – a common issue this afternoon.
55th minute: Marcus Smith converts a penalty from in front of the posts. 10-10. What a tight game!
70th minute: Fin Smith nudges a 50m penalty to make it 16-10. That could have been the clincher.
78th minute: Van der Merwe scores a try in the corner to bring the match within one point. Should he perhaps have put it down closer to the posts? Yes, Finn misses the conversion. This could haunt them.
80th minute: Game over 16-15 to England.
The Calcutta Cup is back in England’s hands for the first time in four years. An agonising wait for the home faithful.
