If you're not slapping one another before a match, you're doing it wrong

This classic old clip from Australia’s The Footy Show received a huge response on our Facebook page, so here it is again if you missed it. It features rugby league players with the title “How to hype up a rugby player in the 80-90s”, and it appears that it struck a chord with a lot of you.

It’s hilarious, and might not even be from a real pre-match routine, but regardless, the general consensus seemed to be that most players would be too tired to play after doing this!

Especially the forwards, who generally would just prefer to just bash their heads against the wall while the backs listen to pop music on their headphones.

Erm. Have done it in the past, but not something I'd call a ritual as far as the teams I've played with. Although saying that, a lot of the stuff tends to be aimed at making a unity based noise in the changing room to psych out the opposition team in their changing room. Horses for courses imo, some people seem to think smacking backs/chests/shoulders is a good idea, I prefer to sit quietly prior to a match, but then I respect the fact that 20 odd guys all sitting in a changing room silently might be a bit odd.. Perhaps I work well sitting quietly focusing on drowning out the noise...
