Son of former England star declares his ambition to play for France

BY Philip Bendon  ·  Wednesday Oct 23, 2024

Lewis Noon, son of former England center Jamie Noon, has been making a name for himself in French rugby. The 19-year-old fullback, part of Brive CA’s academy (hopes), aims to follow his father’s path to international rugby. However, unlike his father, who represented England, Lewis is set on wearing the blue of France.

In an interview with Midi Olympique, both father and son discussed Lewis’s development and future. Lewis began playing rugby at a young age in Malemort, a town where the rugby field was conveniently located near his home. He later joined Brive at the U14 level, continuing to refine his skills.

Noon senior who was known for his physical style of play, acknowledged his son’s different approach to the game. “Lewis has a game based on avoidance. He reads spaces on the field really well and uses that to his advantage. He still has some physical progress to make, but we’re working on it,” Jamie joked, referring to a classic French diet of foie gras and duck legs as the solution.

Lewis also reflected on his father’s influence. While their playing styles differ, he shares his dad’s passion for defending, saying, “I like tackling hard and marking my opponents. I don’t mind defending at all.”

As for international aspirations, Lewis is determined to play for France. Despite being born in England, his heart is set on representing the country where he grew up. “When I was younger, I wanted to play for England because of my father. Now, I want to play for France. I have English blood but a French heart,” he said.
