Clermont maintained their fine form with a convincing 39-17 victory over Toulouse at fortress Stade Marcel Michelin at the weekend. They started the game in sensational fashion as Wesley Fofana scored one of the tries of the weekend after just 39 seconds.

With their all important Heineken Cup Semi Final against Munster a week away, Clermont sent a clear message with yet another powerful performance, this time over third place Toulouse.

Last weekend they drew with Toulon but on this occasion they added to their incredible home record as they marched into the Top 14 semi final playoffs. They are now unbeaten at the regular home stadium for 59 matches, or three-and-a-half years.

Tries were scored by Fofana, Benson Stanley, and Sitiveni Sivivatu, the latter having scored a brace, including one that came from a superb pick-up at the base of the ruck.

Fofana’s was the best of the match though, not only because it was within the first minute, but due to the quality he showed as he stepped, fended, and sprinted his way to the line.

In other news, star France winger Vincent Clerc has been ruled out of the three-Test New Zealand tour with a knee injury. You can view the injury 4:33 mins into the highlights clip on page two.

"Sit down, son", he says... Great try, Clermont are without a doubt the team to beat in Europe.

  • Just saw this, watch poor Parra, he goes up for the ball, and Aurilien steals it from him, and then his pack piles him into the ruck whether he likes it or not and Hines does his job lol! Good on him!

  • Ok the centre I can think of playing anywhere near his level is Conrad Smith, and the Snake ain't making that break. Otherwise, simply no one else is doing what he's doing. He's in my first 15 and NOT ON THE WING!

That's reminds me of his try in the 6Nations agaisnt England, the first time this year he was starting as inside centre. Hope Clermont is wining the H Cup, they deserve it.

    *Ahem* - ruck, not scrum.

An absolute beauty to watch. Nice pass from the base of the scrum by Hines too. I suppose there's no reason why a lock shouldn't be able to pass the ball but many don't seem to be able to, and I've seen a great number of England scrumhalves unable to provide quick ball delivered softly in front of the runner like that.

With Fofana and Rougerie playing so well you'd be a very brace man to bet against Clermont..Only way a team is gonna beat them in the form they're in is to starve them of possession...

Not bad, not great, just okay... and good looking. She just knows her stuff. Though she has the importance her manager wants her to have, meaning she perhaps could do better if she were more than just a presenter. But honestly, most french male sport journalists/reporters/presenters are okay to bad. In my opinion, beginning with Eric Bayle who's been there for too long.

  • I like how the Toulouse number 13 upon getting fended just gets up and walks away with an air of "fuck it, I tried" about him.

I don't know if I'd say "best centre in the world," quite yet, I've only seen him on an international stage fairly recently, so excuse me if I say he might be a little fresh (if I recall correctly) but definitely a strong contender. Put it this way, would want him in my team :)

Give him British residency and stick him in a Lions shirt. Honestly though, he's a brilliant player, I think he'd be a strong contender for any team.

His last fend was an amazing piece of skill. Watch it again in slow motion and focus on the ball rather than the runner. He managed to fend while switching the ball from his right hand to his left in a single, fluid motion. Class, pure and simple.
