Rugby has certainly moments on the big screen, leading the charge is of course the 2009 Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon production Invictus.
Focus on the famous 1995 Rugby World Cup which is of course remembered for the incredible moment when Nelson Mandela handed the trophy to Springbok captain Francois Pienaar. In a moment that went beyond sport, the incredible story of a country transitioning from the darkness of apartheid to the becoming a fully democratic republic was made for Hollywood.
Whilst Invictus was a sublime film that captured the emotion of a nation. There was one other rugby film that most fans may not be familiar with.
This time the film would come from Bollywood rather than Hollywood and let’s just say it is some of the best viewing you will see.
The movie in question is called Sye and the plot focuses on two warring students who use the rugby pitch to settle their differences.
In this short clip one gets a real feel for what the film brings from an action standpoint.
Enjoy!
