Andries Coetzee has reinvented the wheel with inexplicable passing technique

Andries Coetzee has reinvented the wheel with inexplicable passing technique

Lions and Springbok fullback Andries Coetzee appears to have taken a liking to a truly unorthodox kind of pass, the kind that’s usually seen during warm-ups on the training field. Saturday wasn’t the first time he’s done it either, as you can see here with another clip from last year.

It’s quite effective for bulleting a ball across field, but one has to ask, wouldn’t the same have been achieved by passing normally? It’s probably his weak side.

Watch this space to see if he does it more regularly this year. Maybe he’s onto something!

Yes, he is the incumbent. But in springbok rugby that means nothing from season to season, particularly with a change in coaching staff.

It is left handed American football throw. Just looks kind of weird with the right hand stabilising the ball/adding spin. Flatter trajectory and more accurate than a normal looping underarm rugby pass

He is already Boks first choice fullback since last two year right? 13 caps and almost all are starting 15.

There is an age old debate wheather the highest goal of sport is winning or entertainment. Andries Coetzee seems to believe in the latter.

Say what you will about his passing style, but Coetzee had an absolute cracker of a first game of the season last Saturday. Hardly put a foot wrong. Hope the Bok selectors are paying attention.

Is his passing off the left only up to club standard then?
