Irish commentator makes outlandish comment as England score a try

BY Philip Bendon  ·  Tuesday Feb 27, 2024

England’s dry run in the Calcutta Cup continued over the weekend as Scotland secured their fourth win in a row over their old rivals.

Pouncing for three tries on the day, winger Duhan van der Merwe stole the show for Gregor Townsend’s side in front of a packed-out Scottish Gas Murrayfield.

For Steve Borthwick’s England, highlights were far and few between throughout the afternoon.

One such highlight, however, was a brilliantly taken try by winger Immanuel Feyi-Waboso, who spotted a gap in the Scottish defence just meters out from their line.

The score came at a crucial point, bringing England back into contention with just under fifteen minutes to play.

For the 21-year-old Exeter Chief, it will, of course, be a moment to savour early on his England career and reaffirmed just why England head coach Steve Borthwick was so keen to secure his services.

Now well-publicised, the Cardiff-born flyer had to choose between the country of his birth and the country where he had settled into not only playing rugby but also choosing to complete his studies to become a doctor.

Exeter star reportedly chooses England over Wales

Causing quite the storm off the pitch, Feyi-Waboso clearly made the decision to look out for his future, which may have ruffled some feathers.

Speaking about the winger’s choice to select England, Welsh head coach Warren Gatland made some comments in the press that did the rounds.

Since then the Chiefs star has ingrained himself into the England set-up and looks to have a really bright future in the white shirt.

His move didn’t however stop Irish Rugby commentator Dave McIntyre from reminding fans of Feyi-Waboso’s roots as he dove over the line in Edinburgh.

Covering the play-by-play action, McIntyre took to the mic to say, “Feyi-Waboso, what a time to get your first international try!”

Following on from this fairly standard statement, McIntyre went on to say, “The 21-year-old Welshman has come up big for England here!”
