An amusing moment occurred over the weekend in an NRL match between Wests Tigers and Manly as Tigers star Adam Doueihi went to line up a kick, a very vocal spectator took the opportunity to scream some “well informed” kicking instructions.
Over everything, the spectator can be heard screaming:
“You’ve gotta kick it right, Doueihi… You’ve gotta kick it right because it’s going left! You’re pointing it to the left! I’m telling you, you’re pointing it to the left!”
“You’ve gotta compensate! Compensaaaate!”
Of course, the moment was made all the better when the ball was blown off the tee. It was all perfectly-timed and even caused laughter amongst the commentators.
Despite the heckling – or help – Doueihi was able to slot the conversion and couldn’t resist a smiling glance in the direction of the heckler. Furthermore, by all accounts, Doueihi was instrumental in his side’s come-from-behind 34-32 win.
Professionals understand a certain level of heckling goes with the territory and this truly seemed to be in the spirit of fun. One wonders what’s going through his mind since the “advice” was clearly inescapable. Rather than say anything, the best answer, of course, was to get even by nailing the kick.
