The career of a rugby player can be notoriously short, with some players facing retirement before even the age of 30 after finding that they can no longer live up to the rigours of the heavy contact game.
There are of course many exceptions to this case, with many top-level players pushing their late 30s and still going strong. One only needs to think of the likes of the recently reconfirmed Matt Giteau to San Diego Rugby at 41 years old, or Danny Care performing at the highest level both domestically and internationally at the age of 37.
Joining these legends back in the game will be veteran fullback, Mike Brown, according to a report by The Mirror. Brown is expected to re-sign with Leicester Tigers after the club reportedly planted a new contract on the 38-year-old’s desk. His try-scoring appearance against Bath on New Years Eve was expected to be his final one in Leicester colours, but thanks to his consummate professionalism and drive to continue playing at the highest level, Brown appears to be in line for another opportunity.
Leicester Tigers head coach, Dan McKellar was full of praise for the former England fullback following their recent victory over Bath: “I don’t think you’re playing professionally at his age, at the level he’s playing at, if you’re not the ultimate pro.

“I talk about paid rugby players and I talk about professional rugby players and he’s a professional rugby player. That’s why he’s still playing now and not just playing, he’s performing at a level which is up there with as good as he’s played.
“For a young player to observe how Browny goes about his work from one day to the next, those sorts of players are worth their weight in gold. His value is obvious.”
