Safety comes first in Brazil as ambulance drives straight onto the field during play

We’ve seen all sorts of strange things happen on rugby fields over the years, but this must be up there with one of the craziest, and potentially also the most dangerous.

The bizarre incident took place in last weekend’s Brazil national premiership quarter-final between Poli-USP and São José.

As the story goes, the paramedics were apparently told that they could enter the pitch to treat minor injuries without the game having to be stopped. But for some reason, they decided it was a good idea to do so by actually driving onto the field in an ambulance.

As you can see, the run of play almost went straight into the vehicle. Thankfully, there were no further injuries. But if there were, help was nearby.

São José won the first leg 30-29 with the second leg to be played this Saturday… hopefully without any ambulances on the field.
