Springbok star Steven Kitshoff’s time with Ulster Rugby came to a disappointing end as he returned to South Africa to rehab a knee injury suffered against Clermont in the EPCR Challenge Cup.
Arriving in Belfast in November, the 32-year-old’s time with Ulster lasted less than six months of his three-year deal, with just 14 appearances for the province.
In a recent Ulster Rugby statement, the news of his departure was confirmed, “Following a scan and specialist opinion, it has been determined that, unfortunately, this is season-ending.
“He will travel back to South Africa this week, where he will see a knee specialist to decide on the required treatment plan.”
Adding to Ulster’s injury woes, centre James Hume, flyhalf Jake Flannery, prop Tom O’Toole and scrumhalf Nathan Doak also suffered injuries.
“Hume sustained a significant knee injury during Friday night’s BKT United Rugby Championship game against Cardiff,” Ulster’s injury update added.
“He will see a specialist knee surgeon this week. Jake Flannery (thigh), Tom O’Toole (ankle) and Nathan Doak (groin) also suffered injuries during the same game, and their availability for selection will be monitored through this week.”
