When it comes to interprovincial rivalries, few topple the South African coastal clash of the Stormers and Sharks.
Two bluebloods of rugby, the two United Rugby Championship sides have one of the deepest competitive histories in the game when one looks back to the old days of Super Rugby.
Both sides have contested several finals in the old Super Rugby format without ever clinching a title, namely due to the dominance of their northern rivals, the Bulls and the New Zealand franchises.

Since shifting away from Super Rugby, fortunes have changed quite drastically for the Stormers, who won the inaugural tournament before backing it up with a final appearance a season later.
On the flip side, the Sharks have gone hard at recruiting several big-name Springboks and have yet to progress past the quarterfinal stage.
Currently rooted to the bottom of the table, a win for the Sharks against the Stormers in today’s match is non-negotiable if they harbour any ambitions of a late-season run.
