For Australian Rugby fans, the 2023 Rugby World Cup signals an all-time low in the proud rugby nation’s history.
A first-ever pool stage exit came hot on the heels of several wild proclamations from then head coach Eddies Jones, whose “We are not going to France for the croissants” statement will now live in infamy.
Losing to Wales and Fiji was not offset by victories over Georgia and Portugal as the Wallabies crashed to a first-ever pool stage exit.
As one would expect, the vibes around the camp were not positive as despite possessing several world-class players and talented youngsters, the Wallabies never really got going under Jones.
Months later, Jones would leave in controversial circumstances to take over as the head coach of the Japanese national team. In his place would come former Ireland head coach Joe Schmidt, who was fresh off a run to the World Cup final as an All Blacks assistant coach.
In the rubble of what was a destructive period for Australian Rugby, many have questioned how things went so wrong.
Although unlikely to fully answer this question, an upcoming documentary by Stan Sports in Australia is set to be released on February 22nd.
The documentary will go behind the scenes with the Wallabies during their World Cup campaign and should give the viewers somewhat of an insight into what was going on behind closed doors.
Releasing the trailer for the documentary yesterday, Stan teases the tournament itself and gives a snippet of what should be a highly captivating watch.
