League and Union legend Jason Robinson’s rise to superstardom didn’t come easy and was anything but traditional. Here, the 2003 Rugby World Cup winner tells how he came up from humble beginnings and miraculously achieved despite the odds.
Robinson goes through mixed emotions as he talks through life back in one of the areas he grew up in, in Leeds.
“I never knew anything about rugby union. It wasn’t mentioned around these streets.”
He explains how he got into rugby, the start of a career that saw him reach incredible heights.

Robinson won everything he could in Rugby League before making the switch to Rugby Union, after getting a call from ‘some guy called Sir Clive Woodward’.
While Woodward planned for his 2003 Rugby World Cup campaign, he reached out to Robinson.
“‘We’ve been watching you. We feel that you can play a big part in this,'” says Robinson of what the England coach said to him.
“I’d been in the game (League) a long time, won everything, but I think sometimes you’ve got to test yourself, and by playing rugby union at that level, it certainly was a challenge.

“Don’t let anyone tell you that you’re not good enough, you’re not big enough, because if I’d listened to them, then I wouldn’t have done anything in life… I’m so glad I didn’t.”
