Ambitious Wasps Nest Stadium planned to bring club back to the bigtime

Get ready for the buzz! Wasps are making a bold move to bounce back from last year’s financial collapse and re-establish itself as a Premiership powerhouse.

The club has set its sights on a brand new 24,000-capacity stadium, complete with a hotel, conference facilities, and community leisure opportunities. The ambitious project, to be known as the Wasps Nest Stadium, is slated for completion by 2027-28, with work beginning in 2025.

After falling into administration last October and being ejected from the Premiership, the road to recovery hasn’t been easy. However, with a committed group of former players leading the charge, Wasps is determined to rise from the ashes. The club’s vision is summed up by their inspiring strapline, “Stung…but Resilient,” and their mission to be “an inspirational sports business.”

Central to the plan is the goal of returning to the Premiership in the 2025-26 season. But the financial challenges are significant. Wasps must rebuild their supporter base, find fresh investment, and operate sustainably. Rugby revenues must account for less than 50% of the club’s total revenues by 2028, with “brand leveraged revenues” from other stadium activities bringing in an estimated £7m a year from 2027 onwards.

The loss of the club’s “P share” – which guarantees a share of centrally generated income – is a setback. However, Wasps are not deterred. The club is set to announce a new board of prominent business leaders to oversee spending and ensure that revenues constrain expenditures. It’s an exciting time for Wasps Rugby, and with the Wasps Nest Stadium on the horizon, the future looks bright.
