Rees-Zammit denied the perfect wingers try

It was a scintillating match over at Kingsholm this evening as Gloucester defeated Harlequins 28-26 to rise back up into a playoff spot.

Gloucester were blessed to have wingers Jonny May and Louis Rees-Zammit back in full fitness, and speedster Ollie Thorley on form as they took the game to the travelling side.

Thorley was unlucky to be on the receiving end of a head knock within the first couple of minutes, which saw Rees-Zammit’s first introduction to the match. During this time the flying Welshman proved he had not lost a yard of pace, as he sped past the Quin’s defence with ease when chasing down a kick which unfortunately for him went dead. His time on the field was short-lived initially, however, as Thorley passed his HIA and returned to the field of play just a short time later.

Thorley, alongside the likes of Carreras, had particularly impressive games, with the opposition defence not quite able to quite deal with either. Rees-Zammit was however reintroduced later on in the match, with a performance that will have Wales coach Warren Gatland itching to have the speedster lining up against England next week.

Rees-Zammit looked threatening each time he got the ball, and eventually went over the whitewash himself as Careeras put him through a wonderfully created hole, in a try that proved crucial to the end result.

It was the disallowed try earlier on in the game that got the crowd and commentary team talking in particular, however. Receiving the ball on the halfway line, Rees-Zammit accelerated forwards, beating 3 flailing defenders on the way to diving over the touchline for a perfect wingers finish. It was not to be, however, as it was deemed his right foot grazed the touchline, causing the try to be struck off.
