Richard Hibbard was throwing his weight around on the weekend against Saracens, as seen here when he and Sione Kalamafoni combined to knock back England centre Brad Barritt. Saracens won the match 28-21 but this was one of the bigger collisions of the contest.

Kalamafoni went low before Hibbard flew into Barritt, who actually did well to place the ball considering the impact from the Welsh hooker, who has become known as one of the bigger tacklers out there. View more of his big tackles in the Related Posts below.

His and Tualigi's strong defence was instrumental in that famous victory of '12 so I dont understand why he is not in the England setup anymore.

Him and tualigi still the best centre pairing England has had in ages. His a very strong tackler and that makes him a good centre

Eddie-g, I agree, for his defensive reliability the bloke is worth his weight in gold.

I think Barritt is one of a number of players that your point could be applied to. I remember Jeff Wilson saying that a difference between rugby today and rugby twenty years ago is that back then players ran at space and tried to avoid tackles; now they run at players and try to win the collision.

I like Barritt too, and it's his defence which keeps him in the England frame. Think Lancaster is hoping he finds someone with more creativity, but Barritt is still a decent fallback option.

    1) Incredible resilience to absorb the tackle and great composure to present clean ball. 2) Gloucester outside centre had rushed way out of the defensive line creating a huge dogleg. Barritt surely could see the empty space behind that defender but chose instead to run into VERY heavy traffic. I'm actually a big fan of the bloke, but it's this kind of decision-making that makes me hope Lancaster picks someone like Eastmond over him for England. I may be mistaken, as I'm only judging from this clip. Also the last thing I want to see is a centre running laterally, but from the comfort of my armchair it looks like he should have at least been able to get round the guy with the headband.

Richard Hibbard is like a cross between a Beluga Whale and Thor.
