The Best Tries scored in Round 3 of Super Rugby 2014

The Best Tries scored in Round 3 of Super Rugby 2014

There were some outstanding tries scored in Round 3 of Super Rugby, with the tournament now in full swing and the best from New Zealand, South Africa and Australia on show. Here’s a compilation of some of the best tries scored over the weekend.

We’ve already featured Scott Higginbotham’s involvement in two great tries, but they’re included here too, as well as a whole host of great efforts from the other matches.

In terms of notable mentions, look out for a brilliant crosskick try that the Hurricanes scored against the Stormers, which featured Cory Jane diving to catch the ball then casually sliding over.

Young eighteen year old Tevita Li scored from a restart for the Blues, which in fairness was better when watching live, but is still great to see here, especially after beating the All Black skipper.

The Waratahs, who scored through Israel Folau again, lead the overall table on 10 points from two matches, followed by the Sharks on 9, then the Chiefs on 8. All three have won two from two.

Results: Melbourne Rebels 35 Cheetahs 14, Blues 35 Crusaders 24, Chiefs 21 Highlanders 19, Waratahs 32 Reds 5, Brumbies 27 Force 14, Stormers 19 Hurricanes 18, Vodacom Bulls 25 Lions 17

Remember to get in touch with requests after busy weekends of rugby. We’re happy to look at each and every one and will do what’s possible to get those great moments shared on the site.

I agree with most of what you said. The Sharks are my team so I hope to see them tuck it away this year and I think they have the talent to do so. I wasn't expecting the Cheetahs to be brushed aside like they were last weekend, very sad as they are my second team. You just don't get much classier than Adriaan Strauss. Hopefully they tighten up over the rest of the tournament. The tahs are living up to the hype at the moment and their handling has been outstanding. Other teams have to slow the ball down and be absolutely tactical in their kicking if they don't want that ball run straight back down their throats. I think the Sharks have the pack to do just that and if Frans is on his tackling game he might be able to shut the movement down by gambling on a channel. With Pocock out we stand a better chance at the breakdown. Can't write those damn Chiefs or Crusaders off though. Ever.

Great rugby and team play couple of points to consider: 1) the 'tahs are looking really good this year and have a well balanced team. 2) The crusaders look to be in a bit of trouble with injuries and depth but it is still early in the season. I don't think Slade should have left the highlanders to join them either. 3) The SA teams (except the Sharks, who did not play last weekend) don't seem prepared for this super rugby season yet. my early prediction (premature I am sure) of the top 6 given the next couple of weeks/schedule and baring no injury concerns to critical players is: 1) Waratahs 2) Sharks 3) Chiefs 4) Rebels 5) Blues 6) Highlanders Obviously I hope I am wrong, and more SA teams do better but it seems the stormers are digging really deep to get replacement players. The Cheetahs are lacking that edge they had last year, the bulls are woefully depleted with so many senior players gone and the lions have had a good start but I think the inexperience will catch up to them. They might not finish at the bottom of the log though. I'm picking the sharks to win it in the End.

The Cory Jane catch and try was special, loved that, but the pick of the bunch for me was the 'tahs try. Loved that.
