Jones Set For Shock Wallabies Return

Right on the heels of a home series loss to the Eddie Jones led England, Rugby Australia appear to be in the market to make a splash move.

The 2027 Rugby World Cup is already confirmed to be taking place down under and as such the Wallabies performance at the tournament is of the upmost importance to all Australians.

Speaking about the splash move, several reports have been leaked that Rugby Australia has begun preliminary talks to get Jones back involved with Australian Rugby.

Jones who comes off contract at the end of next year’s World Cup has indicated that he is open to a return to his home country.

A return to Australian Rugby would be a full circle move for Jones who coached the Wallabies between 2001-2005.

In this time his Wallabies lost narrowly to England in the World Cup final that is famous for the overtime Johnny Wilkinson drop goal.

Having been booted out of his role with the Wallabies rather unceremoniously, Jones went on to find immense success all over the globe.

This success includes a World Cup winners medal with South Africa in 2007 before beating the Springboks with Japan in a historic encounter at the 2015 World Cup.

Jones also famously took England to the 2019 World Cup final where they came up short against a stellar Springbok side.

Should Jones choose to take up the role of Wallabies coach it would signal the end for under pressure incumbent Dave Rennie.

The Kiwi has seen the pressure ratchet up following the series loss to England. Whilst he is guaranteed to be coach for the next month’s up to and including the 2023 World Cup, his future after that is uncertain.

There is however little doubt that Rennie who has enjoyed his fair share of success would find a role elsewhere should he not be offered a new contract with the Wallabies.

Although his methods have come into question recently, Jones is undoubtedly one of the preeminent coaches in World Rugby.

In a rather unsavoury incident following England’s clinching of the series in Sydney, a fan called Jones a traitor to which the coach reacted angrily.

No doubt this same fan will be cheering on Jones and the Wallabies should he return and more importantly raise the Wallabies back up as one of the true forces in World Rugby.
