Were now getting to the business end of the Currie Cup as the fight for home semi finals heats up this weekend with the Springboks returning to action and the last game of the weekend set to decide the outcome on the final points standings.
The Bulls, who play the Griquas away from home, arent taking any chances as they need to win with a bonus point and hope that both Western Province and the Cheetahs lose. Theyve been lucky enough to call upon returning Bok players Victor Matfield, Bakkies Botha, Danie Rossouw, Morne Steyn, and Wynand Olivier.
At the top of the table the Sharks are sitting pretty as theyre safe in the knowledge that they cant be overtaken. Theyll travel to Cape Town to take on a Western Province side who need at least three points to secure a home semi final themselves.
“It’s crunch time now,” said Sharks coach John Plumtree. If you look at our match, it’s the pick of the games of the weekend and probably has got the most riding on it.”
The Cheetahs are the third team in with a shout for a home semi, so theyll be looking to get a bonus point win over the Leopards then rely on other results to seal their fate.
Its set to be another fiercely competitive weekend, starting tonight as the Lions take on the Pumas in Johannesburg at 7pm and the Cheetahs and Leopards play at the same time in Phokeng. Tomorrow at 3pm the Bulls face the Griquas, and then at 5pm its the Western Province clash against the Sharks from Newlands.
