Tips for making winter training more appealing

Tips for making winter training more appealing

When it’s cold, raining or snowing, the last thing you want to do is don your shorts and t-shirts and head out for a jog. The draw of the duvet is too much for some people, destroying their fitness regime, but this needn’t be the case. Follow these top tips to make keeping fit seem more appealing this winter:

Keep warm

The cold is what puts most people off exercising in the winter. Even just getting ready for your training session is a chore: putting on layers upon layers of unwanted Christmas jumpers from yonder will leave you feeling less than motivated, and will leave you looking like a fool.

There are other alternatives to these knitted monstrosities though, that will not only look better but will be more effective at keeping your warm. Base layers, like this from Activinstinct, are made from specially designed material that will work to regulate your temperature. Wear these and you will also look sleek and sporty, rather than like an extra from a low-budget Christmas movie.

More energy

As you’re dragging yourself out of bed at 6am to hit the gym, you may be questioning the reliability of this next tip. However, making the effort to exercise will actually leave you feeling more alive. Once you’ve got the endorphins pumping, you will feel energised and ready to face the day.
The winter blues get a lot of people down, but once you’ve started exercising in winter, you will become more inclined to do so. Gradually, you will think little of braving the cold and getting active.

Move indoors where possible

When the weather turns really bad, you may feel like abandoning your training sessions and slobbing out on the sofa. However, why not simply move your activities inside?

Granted, this doesn’t work with every sport, but if the streets are lined with a thick layer of snow, you could swap your jog for a treadmill session in the gym. Similarly, move your game of five-a-side to an indoor pitch. There are numerous options so there really is no excuse!
