The USA Eagles ended a five year losing streak against neighbours Canada when they came from behind to beat them 38-35 in Sacramento on Saturday. Played in front of a sell-out crowd, it was the first time that the Eagles had won in this fixture since 2009.

Canada scored five tries to the four of the hosts, but it was the USA that claimed the win thanks in part to Saracens back Chris Wyles, who scored 23 points.

With the win, the USA finish second behind Japan in the Pacific Nations Cup 2014 North America/Asia Conference, with Canada in third place. Canada’s June Tests record reads as 0-3, after losses to Scotland, Japan and now the USA.

“It’s difficult to win down to 14 men for 20 minutes and when you give away as many penalties as we did and when you miss as many tackles as we did today,” said Canada’s coach Kieran Crowley.

“We didn’t deserve to be as close as we were and it was a pretty disappointing performance today. Our coaching staff is going to take a good look at this game and some of the players will need to look at their performance today and we’ll look forward to November now.”

never mind the game - what about the fans at 1 min 28? You don't get that at Murrayfield or Cardiff in February.

Gutted we blew another one. Not sure what is going on with this team and its inability to hold onto leads. Is it fitness? We look good at 9, 10, 13, the wings and FB, carpenter is getting better, Ardron is not a 8, he's a 6, Moonlight needs to step up in 15s more. Think Braid may be the answer at 12. Our backrow looked slow compared to their 8.

Just watched the highlights, looked like a brilliant game. It's nice to see the Canadians having a close match with their neighbours. Obviously sad for them that they lost, but it also heightens the tensions between the two teams.. The next game Canada are going to want that win back and the US are going to want to keep the wins etc, so it's; I believe, progressive for both the nations. It must be difficult for both of those teams to improve, if you consider as a Nation France for instance, have a ton of borders and so many 'close' countries, so competitions can come fairly easily, when you look at the 6N, they don't have to travel round the world - Canada, US, only have themselves as neighbours etc unless they join in on a tournament, or create a new one? Which would be great to see. Argentina are in a pretty tough place too... especially joining the tri nations - a lot of the Argentinians play in the European competitions too - A prop of theirs has just joined Jersey RFC recently.. I wonder how that will work with International duties?

Some nice pace from both sides, good for both sides to narrow the gap.

Great job USA! Some very nice rugby. I would historically support Canada, but anything that can move the USA away from American Football and towards rugby wins my support too. I wonder when's the last time that France played any rugby that looked even remotely like this ...
